Summary | 0014574: Trade makes Federating trivial
Description | Establish trade routes early: smooth sailing for the rest of the game. Sometimes there are hiccups, but nothing threatening. Proposed fix: No trading with non-spacefaring races. Because nothing bad can happen to non-spacefarers, goodwill is guaranteed. Trade routes should provide much lower per-month relationship boosts. Trading goodwill should slow as the total attitude approaches 90 (the magic Federation number). Andor Trade union powers should be much more expensive.

The bonus in relations provided by trading could stop increasing at a given amount. |

I like the idea to slow it down / stop it at some point, but one alternative: Trade should only increase relationships for trade-loving species. Burlusts should not be increasing their relationships/influence with other species through trade. The Boarians should actively dislike trade! They're isolationist by nature. That being said, trade between Andors and Boarians could increase Andors' relationship with Boarians while decreasing Boarians' relationship with Andors. Skylaxians and Andors like trade a reasonable amount. Actuians get double bonus from trade. And so on. Edit: Perhaps Andors relationship status with trade should depend on the party in power. If isolationists come to power, any trade deals are automatically stopped. |
|
That's great ideas, I really like those lore related things. |

"That being said, trade between Andors and Boarians could increase Andors' relationship with Boarians while decreasing Boarians' relationship with Andors." That doesn't make sense. If they don't like trading with the Andors, they would just stop trading with the Andors. Continuing to trade when it lowers their relationship is just weird and counter intuitive. |

Tridus -- I get the idea that from trade, everyone benefits or else they wouldn't participate. I see two reasons why this might not be the case for the Boarians: 1. They are only trading because you, the Hydral, have negotiated a trade agreement. So they dislike the trading but will do it if you have a high enough relationship with them. (Perhaps it should just cost a lot of influence with the Boarians then, rather than with the Andors). 2. The regent has agreed to the trade, but the common Boarians dislike it. Thus, if the relationship indicates the overall sentiment of Boarians toward other races, they might dislike that race for coming to their planet. 3. Perhaps the Boarians should not be trading in general, if they are isolationist. I just felt the story of the Boarians could play a larger role in how they interact with other species when it comes to trade. Perhaps not negative and you can just make it so Boarians begrudgingly accept trade (~0 influence) while Burlusts gain some small relationship bonus (perhaps they are trading for weapons). |
|
I'd be more okay with it if they refuse to trade in general, or if they're annoyed at you for goading them into trade. It just seems awfully odd to me that you can get a trade route set up and they progressively dislike the people on the other end, despite it being a mutal trade route. |

Resolved in later versions, thanks! |
