Summary | 0014813: Fortress auto-free range issue
Description | Hi, It's not a huge issue, but whenever I have selected the 'auto-free range defender' option for my planets so I don't have to do right click + V whenever I send a fleet to protect one, it also affects my unique fortresses. It might not be a big deal at all, but I tend to use the fortresses shield upgrades to help build shield walls along jump gates to hold the AI back when they invade. It is kind of irritating to see my fortress pick up and leave its assigned position to chase an enemy and let the rest of them through the gaping hole in my defense. Or to have a planet with two gateways and have it go to help the other gateway only for enemies to come through the gateway he was supposed to be defending and just get through. I could just pause the games and do the right click + V for my fleet to go where I need it to go to defend whenever there is an attack, but it is one more step in a game I already pause for half an hour at times as I plan out and place defensive positions. It is only a minor issue but it would be a nice change to me. Thank you.

If you: 1) assign all the units you don't want to auto-FRD to a particular control group 2) in the CTRLS window, on the control-group tab, select that control group 3) and set its Auto-FRD Military setting to No (or whatever it says, I forget the exact text) Then military units in that control group will ignore the global auto-FRD toggle. Does that support your use-case? Thanks :) |

Ugh...sorry to bother you. I've been playing this game since it first came out and bought each expansion on release, but never really looked at or had any idea what that control-group tab was for. Thanks for the quick response. :) |

Not a bother at all. I'm the one who made the interface such that you can play the game for a long time and not know about this particular feature (added maybe about a year ago, I forget exactly), so I don't mind occasionally having to be the guide :) |
