Summary | 0015137: Differing Levels of AI aggression
Description | Now that all the races except the Andors and Peltians will declare attacks of opportunity at the drop of a hat, they all feel sort of... the same. The following suggestion is intended to give them more personality. Firstly, RACES KEEP PLANETARY SPACE DEFENSE FORCES, consiting of armadas. The amount of defense they deem necessary depends on the race. These forces are NOT taken into account when considering whether to declare an attack of opportunity! Nor are any forces on missions away from the home planet (defending outposts, attacking other planets etc.). Different races have different behaviours. Here are some ideas for each race: ACUTIANS: Planetary defense equal to 0.5x the average space power of the other races. Will begin an attack of opportunity with 2x the defender's space power and 2x their ground power, or 4x the defender's space power. ANDORS: No attacks of opportunity. BOARINES: Planetary defense equal to 1x the average space power of the other races, or 1.5x if the Regent's priority is Defense. Will begin an attack of opportunity with 4x the defender's space power and 2x their ground power. (Mostly uninterested in starting wars.) BURLUSTS: Planetary defense equal to 0.5x the space power of the Thoraxians (not afraid of anyone else!). Will begin an AOO with 1.5x the defender's space power and 3x their ground power, or 3x the defender's space power. Truces last only 2 years (instead of the usual 3). If a Warlord dies due to internal war, previously agreed truces are ignored (though the Burlusts will only re-declare war if the conditions still hold). EVUCKS: Planetary defense equal to 1.5x the average space power of the other races (Paranoid). Will begin an AOO with 2x the defender's space power and 2x their ground power, or 4x the defender's space power. PELTIANS: Planetary defense equal to 2x the average space power of the other races (Really Scared). Will begin an AOO with 5x the defender's space power. SKYLAXIANS: Planetary defense equal to 0.5x the average space power of the other races. Will begin an AOO with 3x the defender's space power. Will never attack the races "weaker" than them, i.e., the Andors and Peltians. (Code of Honor.) THORAXIANS: Planetary defense equal to 0.5x the average space power of the other races. Will begin an AOO with 2x the defender's space power and 2x their ground power. If the queen is Warlike, will begin an AOO with 1.5x the defender's space power and ground power, and in addition when the queen becomes warlike all truces are shortened to 1 year.

Also, they seem to declare attacks of opportunity a bit too quickly. A disaster (like planetary flooding) or other quick loss of population cn make everyone attack, even though a month later the planet recovers and is no longer weak. But now all the relations have been jacked up and there are grievances, etc. In one game, I had to actuall go and do the "Expand usable land area" dispatch for a race to get their population high enough to keep these attacks from continously ocurring. The race was actually doing just fine with the limited population and would easily repel every attack made, but it tanked their relations with the other races. |

Thanks! * The way that the attacks of opportunity are decided-upon is now different. All races are now eligible for doing them, but they have very different opinions on when they will do them (overall leading to fewer of these): ** Acutians: attitude no higher than -25, must outnumber enemy by 4x ** Andors: attitude no higher than -500, must outnumber enemy by 5x ** Boarines: attitude no higher than -100, must outnumber enemy by 4x ** Burlusts: attitude no higher than 100, must outnumber enemy by 2x ** Evucks: attitude no higher than 50, must outnumber enemy by 4x ** Peltians: attitude no higher than -200, must outnumber enemy by 4x ** Thoraxians: attitude no higher than 200, must outnumber enemy by 2x ** Skylaxians: attitude no higher than -100, must outnumber enemy by 2x ** For reference, the old numbers were pretty much -25 and 2x in all cases, except there was some odd logic in there that also let it happen even more frequently than that. ** Other factors also effect this, however: *** A race in a fear empire with less than 0 attitude threshold goes up to 0, and one higher than 0 gets multiplier by 1.5. *** A race in the federation with greater than 0 attitude threshold gets divided by 4. *** Depending on the current state of the race, their attitude threshold rises or falls as follows: **** Uneasy Truce: -100 **** Truce: -300 **** Warlike: +100 **** Internal War: -200 |
