Summary | 0015153: Attack of opportunity war declared, but attacker does nothing
Description | In the attached save file, within a few months the Thoraxians usually launch an attack of opportunity against the Andors, who have no fleets left. (I'll file another ticket explaining how that happened. EDIT: Filed as 0015154) But when it happens, the Thoraxians just let their fleets just sit at home, and allow the Andors to rebuild their defenses. I have a feeling that the AI has "I need to keep X units defending my homeworld" logic, and that logic is preventing them from putting any ships into the war. My feeling is that the AI shouldn't declare an offensive war if it's not willing to commit sufficient fleets to have a decent chance of overpowering the defender.

I strongly support this. I've seen several situations where an attacker declares war even though the force they have actually available to attack (not defending their homeworld or outposts, or raiding) is very close to the defender's strength. |
I strong against it. the Procedure of declaring war (they(B) seems week > announce they are preparing war against (B) >prepare for war(give us some time right? Also give player some time to react, like try to stop us or player assault one of their planet to assist A,or giving time for player to destory ships in A planet ) |
The point is there should be time giving a player to react before war started. |
Giving the player and/or other races time to prepare can easily be achieved by other means (e.g., having the attacking race wait for longer than usual). In fact, there is already "time to prepare" programmed into the game. Declaring war without a fleet, or the semi-suicidal behaviour seen when races send 1-2 armadas to a heavily defended planet, is not required. |
Thanks! * The solar map AI has seen some notable upgrades so that it won't declare attacks that it can't follow through on, and so that it will also shift the priorities of its overall navy depending on circumstances (full attack when attacking and not threatened, half-attack when threatened and attacking, and then various peaceful options when not doing either of the above). ** Previously these naval priorities were set at the start of the game, and would occasionally change due to circumstances, but not well enough. |
