Additional planets to colonize or planetary bodies would be great for long term goals of races, extend the game, and give people another route that wasn't just conquest. It would also make the game harder as people point out, and be a long term goal. It might allow more diplomatic things to happen, 2 anti federation alliances to form often, offering those kinds of situations. Options: It would allow the betrayal scenario without the need to wipe out a race (making it harder) or the invasion scenario without needing to wipe out an initial race (making it easier). Some ideas: A special planet, one that EVERYONE wants, at least those with a military to get it. A cause of conflict, coming with a static -30 negative modifier for holding it. Jealousy from some races, making the game harder. Hazardous planet types, a gas giant for example, useless early game, but might allow for a fuel or research station late game. Extreme Temperatures, either very high or very low, so colonization tech is required. Toxic conditions, so breathing tech is required. Outposts on the planets can become pirate worlds, if they are never colonized, into their own independent pirate empire. (Hostile to everyone, raids everyone). Asteroid Colonies. |
