Summary | 0015360: New minor faction/game mode
Description | I had an idea for a new game mode/set of golems/superweapon for ai wars. The basic idea is that the galaxy is seeded with five or so massive ships (kind of like golems) Each their own powerful ship type but when all of them are gathered they can be upgraded/combined into one massive capitol ship/super weapon. Just some more ideas about this mode if your interested. The individual pieces of the massive capitol ship are aspects of good battle ship one part represents the engine, very fast ship, not very well armed but can move unimpeded by force fields and minefields, has a special weakness to emp/paralyzing shots, their effect/time is doubled One part represents the armaments, not a very fast ship but bristling with anti fighter/swarming weapons, very weak to bombers One part represents the main cannon, incredibly slow ship, powerful shot, long recharge time, no particular weakness, may have to be stationary when firing. One part represents the hull, no real armaments, average speed but quite obviously has health/armor/shields in spades One part represents the Command, this is a utility ship, kind of a crap shoot of abilities here, could have special powers like champs do, could just have basic tachyon and radar dampening effects, average speed and armaments but balancing and abilities would have to be carefully picked with this one, like any ship with "special" abilities but yeah getting the ships would be like getting a golem in terms of cost/AI response, might have the AI respond more harshly as you get more of the ships in hope to stop you from combining them. When you do set up the building/scaffold and start combining them (it takes a long time to figure out what plugs into what i would imagine) the AI would definitely respond very harshly to this action and would continue to do so until you are dead As always the tweaking would be up to you guys, but i am imagining a very powerful endgame ship, a real capitol ship for an endgame fleet/homeworld assault, something that can take a beating and dish one out, something that once you get it you never want to loose it. another idea i just had with this when the ship is being made you get a 50/50 chance of getting it right, if you get it right you get your super capitol ship and you can go about your business but if you get it wrong you put the pieces together but its unstable, you have 15/30/45 (depending on difficulty)minutes before the ship explodes (think a really big lighting warhead, nothing that would destroy a planet but a really big bang otherwise) This explosion effects even your ships so don't be around when it happens, but the trade off is that with the buildup of power the ship is much more powerful (weapons do more damage/more shield) with this outcome you try to do as much damage as possible before it goes bang.

I very much approve of this idea. Though i don't so much like the notion that after going to such lengths to collect super-capital-ship fragment that an engineering team would do it wrong... |

I can understand that, maybe have it as a setting, like with easy/moderate/hard golems. In easy/moderate the construction is fine and dandy, but if you play on hard the construction is unstable and you have a limited time with the ship once it is made, but it is much more effective at it job during that time =) |

one thing goes wrong and you are screwed is my problem. never know when the ai is going to somehow dig in and snipe that munitions Voltron piece. got a counterpoint to that? also, what of the stat line? do we really need something that makes golems look weak, because for all the running about getting parts it had better make golems look weak after I go through the pulling teeth of putting megatron back together again. alternate version of the idea: have a few different options for each piece, like one antiswarm missile pod munitions piece, one laser based piece, and a shell based one, etc. seed pieces randomly, the pieces can control the special abilities and attacks of the completed whole. The head would be simple- no specials on it but controlling the head brings exos to kill it (based on how deep into hard setting, same as fallen spire). also the head would be immune to transport and immune to being cloaked.you do _not_ want to lose your head, there's only 1 in the galaxy. my games already feature shoddy haphazard construction- it's called my battle plans! :) |

hey again malkiel, thanks again for the feedback i love the comparison to voltron its a great comparison, but my version of it would not be able to separate after it it constructed. Half of the fun of this is that if you do loose a piece you do loose the ability to create the bigger ship, and there would be many tactics for this mode, because there would be a time where the parts by themselves would be more useful to you and you could risk them to achieve your goals, but later in the game when the pieces are not as important you could combine them into a more useful ship for late game. i do like the idea that there are many kinds of parts that could spawn, like you could get multiple engine parts or different types of armaments parts and that could effect the final build of the super capitol ship.. that is an awesome idea dude This not meant to make golems look weak, think of the pieces has half as effective as a proper golem but when they are combined they are much more effective then a golem As i might of mentioned in my other posts if a dev actually leaves a comment saying that they are interested and would like a bit more detail i would provide more ideas/details to the idea but for now.. i am just throwing it out there. |

I am interested in the idea of multiple parts seeded and not needing all of them. How about having the ability to create the control nexus yourself? you could only have one at a time and would be rather unwieldy upon completion, not helpless mind you but fairly average for a star-ship. Then you bring it to the pieces, the AI would not like this and sends a retaliatory wave scaled by the number of parts you already have. The components would be inert by themselves but the craft collecting them could grow incrementally stronger. You could also have multiples of the same pieces added, attaching an engine would increase speed by 100% each. Multiple shield arrays, extra hull segments, numerous weapon systems. Even cooler if it appearance changes to show each new piece. Would probably be Zenith. |
