Summary | 0015601: Zenith Chameleons not hiding?
Description | I'm not sure if this is me doing something wrong, or if the chameleons don't work as they should, but... I was chased by a gaggle of AI ships, and figured it would be a good time to make use of the Chameleon ability to hide. So I stopped moving with them and powered them down in order to hide them (although technically, the text doesn't mention them not firing, just not moving). They still were fired upon for quite some time though (long enough for ships to cloak normally a couple of times over by my estimate). Is there some other limitation to them that isn't noted, or do they not work right now?

in my experience stopping them is the challenge. you have to individually give them a clear orders command. if they are in a group they will do the formation jiggle preventing cloak. if you did a move order you have a similair issue because they complete the movement then formation jiggle leading to a longer than possible cloaking action. would be nice for this unit to get a command button labeled hide that stops their movement and clears their orders since there isnt quick keys that i remember to get this to happen easily. though they are the only ship type that NEEDS this , i can think of a number of situations it would be nice to have an easy clear all orders and stop moving option. |

No, they were sitting pretty still, without any movement jiggle. Also, you can clear any units order by pressing "END". They'll still jiggle around if there are any collisions, but it'll clear their move command. Press it once and they stop their current order, press it again and they will clear their target list. Although I think I might've found out what made them not cloak. In order to cloak, they have to reload fully after firing. Problem is, once they do, they'll fire again unless they're powered down, and if they power down, they won't reload. Which means that once they're in combat, they won't be able to hide. |
