That's an error message we've seen when an antivirus program on the computer decides to kill AIW. The .exe itself was updated during the last few versions, so that would explain why it wasn't happening before.

What sort of antivirus is in play here, and can it be asked to kindly not kill our game? :)

It would have been Avast, but even after the removal of Avast... a crash and upon verifying the game cache, 35 files fail to validate :/

Edit: Now i'm just plain confused. I was on 7.0001 yesterday, and I wake up today and I've been updated to .048, Two betas are avaliable still, though. It may have been my backup made in steam that updated me.

I'm going to backup Ai War and update and see what happens.

Loading items from disk crashed at 144, and Fatal Error in gc: Duplicate handle failed occurs. The error window is additionally unclickable requiring you to alt tab to desktop and right click "close all windows" on the ai war stack in the taskbar. Again I had 7.048 before updating and reached the main menu and started a single player game with no issues.

Really odd, I'll ask Chris if he knows anything about this. Btw, just guessing by the executable path: this is on Windows? Windows 7, or something else?

Yes, Windows 7. I have an AMD graphics card, which may or may not be totally irrelevant.

Are you running this through Steam? If so, are you on the beta branch in Steam, or on the version through the in-game updater only?

I am launching from Steam, but I am using the in-game updater. I was not even aware of a beta branch in Steam.

I gotcha. There is a new default build in steam that is the same as the beta branch, as I think that it may have been affecting a variety of people a variety of ways. Can you restart steam and see if it works fine after it updates the game?

I am magically at .052, but attempting to get the final beta after downloading the update the updater did not open (or operated very quickly) and then after three attempts to launch AI war, ending with 2 errorless crashes and a breakpoint error, the game launched successfully instead of crashing during gameinit. The update did not apply.
EDIT: Both attempts to update, one with download and install all updates, and one with the updater tool did not work. Both times they spat
A breakpoint has been reached at (0x80000003) occured in the application at location 0x7752805d
Click OK to exit the program.

Can you have it verify the integrity of your local files?

1 file failed to validate, After it was downloaded the game launched without issues but in version 052 I tried updating via download and install all updates, and I did not see the updater run, but it did need permission, so I let it run like always, and then tried to launch. The same error during gameinit. I verified again and 1 file failed to validate.

Hmm. Can you look for error files inside of the main RuntimeData folder, as well as those from inside UDA/RuntimeData? Please note which are which, as I may not be able to tell.

Also, the output.log from inside your AIWar_Data folder when it fails to run would be helpful.

I just went through the steps that you did to be absolutely sure, and it's working fine for me, so I'm kind of puzzled.

So.. Well.. It's updated successfully now, and I did absolutely nothing to change the outcome I am going to back up AI war again, and use the other older backup and see if it's reproduceable. after that, I'll attach all the logs I can find from the crash, if it happens.

Well... that is peculiar indeed, but thanks for all the testing on this!

Yeah, It's not crashing anymore. Do you guys save a backup of the local profile anywhere? that is one thing the crash does remove. bear in mind I had to delete local content 3 times before I hit this smooth road.. which is very strange. (If you don't save a profile backup, might I suggest adding it?) at this point I'd say the ticket could be closed, I'll reopen it if the crash comes back!

We do save a backup of your profile, which is embedded in the settings.dat file. It's called settings.bak right in the same folder (RuntimeData). I wonder if something in there was causing your issues somehow, which would be really strange.
