Description | When I try to launch AI War, the game successfully starts maybe 1 time in 6. The other times, the game will either give me a Breakpoint exception (picture attached), crash with the Windows program crash message, or just close on its own. I have also gotten a "Fatal error in gc" message, but I think that has to do with AVAST and is likely unrelated to these crashes. I read through issue 0015624 and running a "verify integrity of game cache" through Steam seems to correct the issue, but only for a single game session. If close the game and try to launch it again, it crashes as above. | ||||

Hi there, sorry about the troubles. Can you look in your RuntimeData folder and post any error logs from there? And also, can you look in your AIWar_Data folder and post your output.log? Additionally, I've now released 7.059, so there's a chance your issue may be fixed in there regardless. Additionally, I think this thread on various Last Federation crashes and how people worked around them (what other programs were interfering) may be useful: http://steamcommunity.com/app/273070/discussions/0/558753803782716565/ It may be that some things that were previously not affecting AI War because of the old graphics pipeline now are, I'm not sure. Specifically of interest are that windowblinds causes issues, and apparently msi afterburner. Hope this helps! |

I saw the update and I was really hopeful, but it did not help. I added both the AI War folder and my Steam folder to AVAST, but I'm still getting the same errors as before. Disabling the AVAST shields also appears to have no effect at all. Running the game in windowed mode did not help, nor did disabling the update check. I tried running the game without Steam, but that did not help. I closed a bunch of other programs (iTunes, Chrome, Display Fusion, Raptr, Logitech Gaming Software, and Plantronics GamesCom software for my headphones), and I disabled my second monitor, but none of that helped either. It's not a huge deal for me, becuase the game will eventually launch, just maybe not the first time I got to play it. I also have not had it crash during gameplay. I uploaded both ArcenDebugLog.txt and output_log.txt. Thanks. |

Also: There is a new beta version in steam called oldgfxpipeline that will take you back to the version that was previously working for you, which you can use in the meantime if your issue persists. That will at least let you play while we try to resolve your issue on the main release path, if that is something that isn't either already fixed or an interaction with some other program that objects to the new graphics pipeline. |

Okay, this is coming in the next version: * Fixed an issue in the last couple of versions with the images for the achievement icons. On the next version, can you delete your error log files and then if there are more errors, submit that fresh? Also, with your output.log file it looks like you sent me a version from when the game actually loaded up fine. That particular file gets overwritten every time the game loads, so I need one from when it fails to load. Though actually having the two for comparison is not a bad thing. :) Thanks for your patience! Okay, a new version 7.060 is now out, hopefully that helps. There were some errors with image sizes in your log files, but nothing else really informative unfortunately. That said, in the other guy's logs it was seeming very likely that automatic update checks were getting killed by some form of antivirus. I should have mentioned this before, but in your settings.dat file inside your RuntimeData folder, you can add/change the following line: AutomaticallyCheckForUpdates:1 to AutomaticallyCheckForUpdates:0 That would prevent the crash if it is indeed update-check-related. |

I got the same error from the oldgfxpipeline branch of the beta and also 7.060. Setting it to not check for updates automatically didn't help either. I am unfortunately not sure which version I last played that launched successfully. Like I said, though, once it gets through the GameInit and Loading Items from Disk steps, the game runs fine for me. Also of note, I'm getting the Fatal error in GC note even with the automatic update checks off. I am also attaching an output log from a Breakpoint Exception because it has extra stuff on it. |

OK so uninstalling AVAST seemed to make all of the crashing problems go away and reinstalling it made them come back. Of interest, I also tested Bionic Dues, Skyward Collapse, and Valley 1 & 2, but the only one of those that had crashing at startup was Valley 1. These also went away after uninstalling AVAST. So I guess this is a problem of AVAST being overly aggressive some of the time. I find it odd that neither disabling the shields nor adding folders to the exceptions list had any effect. |

Well... good to know that AVAST was the problem, at least. Thanks for the update on that, that really does stink. I hope that they get their stuff fixed up so that they listen to their own exceptions and shields, but I've heard talk of them not for the past year or so (basically the same sort of stuff you just experienced, although for other games). I've really been getting frustrated with AVAST, I'm not sure what they are doing with their stuff. I used AVG Free for years, and was pleased with how it handled viruses but not how it slowed down my system. I'm not sure what the perfect solution is... |
