Summary | 0016191: Stock Exchange = Crimewave
Description | I turn on my stock exchange/banks and crime skyrockets. I understand that this is modeling the real world white collar crime of our financiers, but that should not lead to hundreds of deaths in my little village. Arbitrage leads to hands-off deaths, not gun deaths! Admittedly, I have no idea what is going on under the hood, but it is terrifying that every time I enable the stock exchange & banks, my population will be halved. If this is WAD, we definitely need tooltips and guidance through increasing financing without skyrocketing crime.

Can you test and see if you put a police station nearby if that solves your problem? Basically if you're trying to set up banks with no police force at all, then the crime will go nuts. I need to review the mechanics of that to make sure that it's less severe with smaller cities in the first place, and to make this effect more clear. |

Thanks! * The amount of crime at each building from crimes of opportunity, from inherent in the business, and from pollution (for extra-sensitive buildings, anyway) is now vastly shrunk at the start of the game, and gradually grows to become the full amount at population 10,000 and up. ** This way you aren't so hosed if you don't know to put police stations near to a stock exchange early on. Instead you'll discover that gradually and have time to react. |

Opportunity crime from Stock Exchanges is still pretty high. I've attached a same where a Stock Exchange is next to a Riot Police and Police. Turning on the Stock Exchange adds 870 crimes of opportunity in a population of 590 Boarines. Looking at the building files, the Opportunity Crime Coefficient for Stock Exchanges is 60 times that of a Bank. But the income is only twice as much. |

It is still high, but I haven't found it quite as absurdly high as before. Chris - the police stations are important, and def. help (but it was your downscaling of the level of crime that was most helpful). |
