Summary0001645: Relief Guardian
DescriptionA Relief Guardian is a shield bearer (or armor bearer, see below) for stations. It floats in space until a structure loses 25-50% health. It is only triggered for stations that wouldn't automatically be lost when the Cmd Center is lost. Then it rushes to the site with exceptional speed and activates a force field as it arrives. It triggers when it arrives and the station is still there. The Guardian remains there with activated force field unless destroyed. If the station it triggered for is destroyed before it arrives it stays put or returns to its previous position (if this is easy enough to program)

Alternatively if the force field is too messy it can give an armor bonus within a radius.

The Relief Guardian would not only be a road bump in planet capture but can also make raids without raid starships pretty costly.

"Relief Guardian" would be more grammatical, relieve is the verb for what I think you are looking for.

Would it also be cloaked or camouflaged while it waits off station somewhere?

Grammar fixed, thanks!

I'm not sure if it needs to be cloaked. Would be a good surprise, though.

It's a good idea, but I don't see how it would affect Raid Starships to be honest. Raid Starships fire through shields, so this Guardian wouldn't stop them in the least.

Once again showing that we may want two tiers of force fields. One that standard force field immunity can go through, and then the ultra rare tier two force fields that are immune to force field immunity. (And yes, if you want, this recursion could go further)

Edit: Has the suggestion of immunity to force field immunity force fields been put in Mantis yet? (my head nearly exploded just typing that)

I never said that it would. It would however affect raids with bombers. There are targets that are pretty hard to destroy with raid starships only.
