Summary | 0016624: Enable 'force next turn'
Description | I may not want to anger the Bugs by advancing on the cultural social track, even if I have enough points to advance. I may not want to select my next research project (or indeed, may be unable to select it because I haven't advanced sufficiently in culture to open up the gated research options). I may not want to learn any more languages, because I enjoy being an ignorant xenophobe. Please let me (not) do these things. I love the prompting for new research, culture, linguistics, but I'd like the option of letting things sit. Civ 3-5 (among many others) have the option to force a next turn, even if units have moves remaining & cities have no project selected. The unused resource (research, culture, etc.) could continue to accumulate, just perhaps at a slower pace?

Zugzwang. |
|
Fair point vis a vis cultural track (though I think that conflict with the thoraxians should be avoidable...) but with research, it could be game breaking. It is theoretically possible to research everything prior to a research gate and then get stuck unable to advance to the next turn because you have no potential research selections. If Chris wants to keep open the zugzwang option (which I don't like, because it forces a certain type of endgame procedure) -- then you should get a warning BEFORE you reach Devotion and we would need a map mode that highlighted the various social progress points of buildings so you had the option to demolish everything. |

Oh, I wasn't trying to imply that it was intentional. I just like the word. ;-) |

I would have marked this as fixed, but I didn't want someone later to come by, just see the header, and think that this feature had been implemented as requested. Instead: Implemented some social progress rules that had simply never been ported during the redesign of that feature: It won't force you to spend a Cultural point if Devotion is the only currently valid choice, since Devotion ticks off a race of nightmare death machines. It won't let you accumulate more Cultural progress if you've got a point sitting there waiting to be spent (on Devotion). |
