Summary | 0017185: Initial lander placement blue cloud shading is confusing and does not add anything.
Description | The size is way bigger than the visible area anyways and encompasses the entire visible area regardless of where you choose to drop the lander. It also takes away from the pretty map and being able to see what terrain is underneath it. I recommend simply removing it for the initial lander placement.

shoot, sorry. Just found a duplicate of this one and added the link. |
Does it not show where the lander provides police and some "pollution" counter-measures ? That information can be useful for placement, but it's true that it's completely unexplained. |
Sure, it does. But my point is that no matter where you choose to put the lander in my experience, the radius covers the entire initially visible area. So according to the information you have at the very beginning, the initial lander placement is almost inconsequential, and the radius of the lander is entirely inconsequential. Now, I like having the choice of placement, but having the blue cloud has two issues: 1. It gives no relevant info, the entire visible area will be within its range no matter where you place the lander. 2. First impressions matter, a lot. I think the first impression is improved without the blue cloud hovering over everything at the very start. I still would want to show it for each subsequent civic expansion since my two points no longer hold. |
Good points, actually. |
Thanks! * When placing your lander, it no longer shows that blue overlay all over the place. |
