Summary0018104: Please follow the game lore and stop the AI waves when you win.
DescriptionI was very disappointed after finally winning a game to find that the AI keeps sending waves after the game is won. I had all of these very cool super ships that I wanted to keep and yet they were wiped out by more waves.

Why doesn't the game follow its own lore and stop sending waves?

To elaborate a bit, perhaps the game proper should behave as though defeat has occurred, beyond the YOU WIN! text. Reinforcements would no longer arrive, AI ships would behave stupidly or simply drift, etc. This would allow people so inclined to proceed to "Scour The Shire," and clean up the AI waves. Otherwise, it would more definitely signal AI defeat.

As a compromise could we have yet another check-box that will turn off the incoming waves mechanics upon victory? No other change to what the ships do.

This is also being discussed here: https://www.arcengames.com/forums/index.php/topic,18282.0.html

Approve of this. I think you don't want a forced stop to the game, but neither do you want the AI to continue on its merry way. The exo-wormholes should close, and all exo-waves should stop. AIP should probably drop to zero, since the alert status of the exo-AI is no longer relevant.

It might be plausible to continue normal waves and reinforcements, under the premise that the AI has some production capabilities still left inside this galaxy.

Arguably, it would be appropriate to convert all remaining AI ships to general threat.

I'll try to make this my last post... /hah

Here are my suggestions for proceeding:

1) Add a check-box option and have it checked by default: "Stop Exo-Wormholes activity upon winning"
2) If the user leaves it checked, when the game is won, the game invokes part of the logic from the showdown event such that the Exo-Wormholes stop. The other activities from the showdown event need not apply.
3) If the user un-checks this options, then the game is exactly as it is now.

Hopefully that requires the minimum amount of coding and it would by default avoid the confusion that a new player would have. Existing old school players would be happy as well.

Thanks for your time.

Recording Jotto's excellent suggestion in the forums:

"There's a pretty obvious way to resolve the camps - one wants the game to go on as before, and one wants a sense of concrete victory. Make the inter-galaxy wormholes destroyable once you destroy the AI home command stations."

I think completing the Showdown Devices event does this.

You are correct but the desire is to have the default game follow the game lore. I at least became disappointed when I won my first game and realized I couldn't keep my fleet around to show my friends. As an example.

Oh, I totally did not see that part of your comment.

I was mostly pointing out that the existing logic is somewhere in the game, so it could be reused in this case, IE, that it should be comparatively easy.

Upon reflection, I'm in the camp favoring turning off waves when you win, no checkbox involved.
