Summary | 0018839: Various Missing Information Issues
Description | There's a lot of absent information on a many items and effects throughout the game. Probably the most notable is that there is no clear indicator when an item will simply go away when you leave the room - all of these items should say in some fashion that they'll go away if you don't pick them up (and an icon of some sort for additional indication would be good as well). Some items lie about what they actually do. E.g. there is an item that's actual effect is double fire rate and half damage, but the description says +50% and -50% which is a very different thing. (And if possible it'd be great to see actual totals of e.g. damage and fire rate on the pause screen, though I know that is some amount of work to implement.) The Deep Blue ship doubles how much Energy you get from Energy upgrades, but I don't believe this is documented anywhere. Should be mentioned in the ship description. It is very unclear what effects will affect which weapon types. Some damage upgrades specify 'Main Gun and Missile', but most don't say at all and I'm never sure if something is going to affect my Energy Weapons or not. I've encountered a few other similar issues here and there, but these are the ones I made note of.

Yeah, there is fair amount of unclear stuff like this in the game. We'll be looking into improving this before next build. I'll comment again with the details of what we've changed once the fix has been made. If you have any other instances of this type of issue, feel free to update your post with more information. Thanks! |

Sorry about that. It's probably my fault for most of these document problems. IIRC there are two types of items that will go away if you leave, the first is Item rooms that you get to pick one of, the other is the challenges you get at the start of each floor. Are those the items you are thinking of? (The second system is going to get a massive revamp soon, since no one really likes it). Edit: I watched the latest stream and noticed it was the Shield Tech item. It was recently changed because you could previously leave the item until you kill the boss on the level, walk back and grab it, and then finish the level granting a free shield with really no cost. The text wasn't updated to rreflect that. We'll get that fixed up. Thanks. System effects of shot damage, reload rate, fire rate, and DPS combined with the different mathtypes make many of these manipulations somewhat awkward. I've tried to write messages that are consistent with the spirit of the effect (while lying about what goes on sometimes). I'll go check the firing speed items again, but I thought they were correctly described. Note that firing speed is reload speed, how long it takes before the weapon can fire again, it is measured in seconds per shot. This is kinda the inverse of firing speed which is shots per second. There are also complications in there are other systems that also impact fire rate, which is a bit convoluted to address here. Current DPS, fire, rate, etc numbers are features that the design team didn't really want to include because it slows the game down without providing very much in the way of experience. In general the direction of the upgrades are obvious, but the effects are only sensible within context. A slower firing weapon might have higher DPS on paper, but if you can't aim well, your actual DPS would be lower than a similar DPS weapon with a higher fire rate. I'm on the fence about it myself. The Deep Blue double energy "feature" has been removed, but I'm not sure if that patch is out yet. Main Gun upgrades also effect energy systems. I need to find and update all of those. I had thought I had already done that, but perhaps I missed some. If you haven't already, upgrade to the newest patch. |
