DescriptionWell, I certainly got what I wished for... I think marauders may be slightly over the top right now, at least if they show up early game. Actually, the dagger frigates are probably okay (as long as you have something good against them), but 20 frigates and 20 buzzbombs wiped out Mark I capfleets of all three triangle ships and a Mark I/II capfleet of Eyebots in about 30 seconds (well, the frigates took a while to die to the dagger frigates, but the battle was lost by then). Probably 75% of the non-frigate losses were to the BuzzBombs. And frigates seems to be basically incapable of damaging dagger frigates.

Don't get me wrong, I prefer the current "Holy CRAP!" marauders to the previous useless ones. But perhaps a little toning down of the buzzbombs is in order. At the very least they should show up in small enough numbers early game that Mark I capfleets of all three triangle ships stand a chance...

Well... having mark I capfleets of the core ship triangle isn't much of a guarantee of safety against anything. Right from the start you have the K to get some higher-level ships, and/or some starships of either mark I or higher marks.

This is not to say there isn't a balance issue, as there has been some comment on this in the forums as well, but that's been a subject of some debate so far. Bear in mind that these are mark IV units, so they ought to give some trouble. And in terms of their numbers showing up at a given time, it seems to me that marauders ought to be... quite scary. :)

I'm open to discussion on this, but I'm kind of liking it the way it is, and I get the feeling that some others are feeling the same way.

I want the marauders to be scary, yes, I just think the BuzzBombs are little over the top right now. Considering marks scale linearly, I don't think a Mark I/II capfleet would have done much better; it took the buzzbombs maybe two full salvos to wipe out my fleet.

That kind of area effect firepower can only really be countered by manually spreading your fleet out so they can only target a few ships at a time, which feels like annoying micro, although if that is your intended way of countering them then I suppose I can live with it.

Another thing I have noticed, btw, is that the marauders seem to decide upon targets weirdly. I had a large enough group of buzzbombs to kill everything I owned at the time completely ignore three of my planets in a row (just flew from wormhole to wormhole) to get themselves killed at a Mark IV AI planet.
