Summary | 0002113: Ability for players to choose from 4 options at the ARS | ||||
Description | I wanted to do this sooner than later, but it needs to wait. Each player gets an "unlock point" when they are given an ARS. Then each individual player can choose their own unlocks from a set of 4. It remembers what ships had been offered to players in the past during the campaign, and then attempts to not re-offer them the same things again (assuming there are enough non-previously-offered ship types remaining). The UI for this I'm a little fuzzy on, and it's there that most of the work lies at the moment. Just out of scope for now, but this will make one heck of a DLC update for sometime later, when we're working mostly on our next project. | ||||

Wasn't this sort of thing done with the ship design hacking? |

What's the reason for this? I think the existing gameplay works fine. |

The only thing i'd change in the current system is that the ARS shows you the 3 shiptypes you can unlock BEFORE you hack or capture the planet by clicking on it. That way you know beforehand if a ARS-hack is worth it or not (which in most cases it is not...). In case you go with your new system anyways will you be forced to spend that one point in the ARS you got it from or can you save points and unlock more than 1 ship in another ARS? |

I'd agree with Kaleopan's suggestion. It'd be nice to see the shiptypes before beginning the hack. |

You can see ARS options before hacking. You can bring in a normal science lab to a planet (the Mk. IIs cloakibg helps with this) and you will get a new tab on the lab called ARS. This will work even before you hack it. That new tab will show the 3 options that hacking the ARS will give you, with the first (leftmost) one being what you would of gotten if you capture it without hacking. IMO, the game needs to do a better job of communicating you can do this, and it would be nice to have a more convenient way of seeing this info as well (like maybe the hacker itself could also show this tab). |

Ahh, that's good to know. The backup servers, for instance, show the stored design on their infocards. The ARS could do the same. |
