Summary | 0021332: Tips menu (interface suggestion)
Description | Chris, I like how tips look like on the main menu screen. But I have a suggestion about fullscreen menu with tips. It seems everything can be shown on the same screen! See the screenshot with the dark magic of Paint :) It will be cool to see something like Civilopedia in the future to open it during the fight. I added a glossary on the screenshot, just to dream about it, but it can be a wiki button for now :)

I see what you mean, and in some ways that would be nice. But there are a few things that prevent that: 1. As far as the sidebar tabs go, there will be more of those with time, so I need the vertical scrollbars and space to show all that. 2. As far as the actual topic titles go, I need that big space in order to make them actually legible, since I can't explain a complicated topic sentence in just 200px wide or equivalent. 3. As far as the contents go, I'd have to do another window that is shorter in order to fit the tabs above them on certain aspect ratios, which would make things that are long harder to read. I'm sure that there's some solution that would be workable, but frankly right now I just have vastly bigger fish to fry and already not enough time. But that current sort of design like what you mocked up wouldn't be a workable option because of the above three issues in particular. |

Yes, I understand your position well. Too bad I can't help with text for tutorial (because of language barrier). But maybe someday I will help with Russian translation :) Very minor issues with fullscreen tips: 1) In the 1920x1080 resolution position of the button "OK" is too low. 2) Open a fullscreen tip and press Esc. It closes menu behind the tip but don't close the tip itself. p.s. In the current realisation it will be cool to have arrows on the page of the tip (next - previous tip). |
