Summary | 0021463: Some planets can no longer be interacted with on the galaxy map, after playing a while.
Description | If I try to hover over the planet with a mouse, the info box at the bottom of the screen will not show up. This can happen to both player and AI-controlled worlds. By that token, it wasn't not possible to go there with a fleet. This seems to only happen after some time post game start, and so it's not easy to know exactly when it happens. Quitting the entire game will restore it, but quitting to the menu will not. So, did not upload save. Will try to see when this happens again, and try to access the planet via the command station on the fleet menu.

Any idea about things that might have happened to these? Perhaps things like the planets changing hands, or something like this? And I take it it's only on the galaxy map that there's a problem -- you can click through into these planets from adjacent planets using wormholes? It sounds like some sort of data is stale or something, possibly because of either caching or an exception. Anything in any of the debug logs? |
|
Just occurred again while playing, and I cannot see anything in a debug log. I have a pair of reproducible saves on my PC now. Yes, I can access these through the adjacent wormhole. I'm experimenting with trying to select it at different galaxy zoom levels, and the target planet can rarely be selected - you have to be somewhat pixel precise, and the valid selection seems offset. It seems that the mouse selection radius and position for the planet was wrongly set? NB: I'm playing in a windowed client on DirectX 11 mode. Here are the two saves, sorry it's a bit complicated, but simply reloading between saves A and B then tabbing between the galaxy and planet views should reproduce the bug. In context, three simultaneous fleet actions are taking place: (1) Save A -> group 3 captures Flint -> build defenses -> Save B. Adjacent AI planets Koenig and Demaine should now be affected by the selection bug. (2) Save A -> finish ST hack on group 1 -> destroy AI command center -> capture Hinton -> build defenses-> Save B. Hinton, Hillis, Stearns, Murdoch are NOT affected by the selection bug. (3) In the mean time, Marauders are attacking planet Tierce. They will capture it in the time between save A and B. Its adjacent planet Joshi will then affected by the selection bug. |
|
Just tried to reproduce this again with the above saves after work. It's not that trivial to reproduce - maybe you have to load save A first, and then save B. |

Thanks! Coming in 0.881: * A new keybind (defaulting to F5) has been added to the Debug section: Dump Info From UI ** Dump all of the info about currrently-displayed UI windows, and anything to do with why textboxes might be blocked as well, both to the log and to a popup window. ** This gives a bunch of info that we should have made dump-able years ago, sigh -- why we didn't think of it, who knows! But if you're having trouble with a textbox not taking input, or part of the screen being non-clickable, or part of the screen being obscured with a big black background, then please hit F5 and send us the results that it puts into the ArcenDebugLog.txt in your PlayerData folder. It also will show you visually what is happening in a nicely-formatted fashion, so you might figure it out as you're even sending it to us what is wrong, who knows. Either way works for us! |

Fixed a while back, IIRC. |
