Summary | 0021620: Add way to select multiple groups of ships from the selection list
Description | You can click a ship group in the selection display in the lower right to select them. It would be nice to be able to shift-click multiple of those - say for example I'm trying to select all parasitic pike corvettes AND parasites in the system.

You can use the "Local" tab on the left side bar to do that. I know it's not the same since the right view has ship names instead of icons, but the feature exists. It'd be nice to view the ships in the local tab as a list of ship names instead of a grid of icons. |

In terms of the core request here, I can't think of any way this could possibly work, because you already have all these things selected, and so changing your selection to have a subset of it selected will immediately blank out the rest. If that makes sense? Having a modifier to hold to remove items one by one could work, but that's the only thing I can really think of. As far as the local tab goes, I agree on that with the ship names as an option there, I think that would help a lot. I have a variety of things planned for that, but it's going to be a big undertaking and probably have multiple optional ways it can work. |

The first game had alt clicking on the selection list to remove ships by line, i think that was already put in? |

@x4000Bughunter The way I see it, the modifier key would suspend the modification of the selection until you release it. So you hold modifier and highlight multiple entries by clicking them in the list just like you'd ctrl-select multiple files in Windows Explorer. Then when you release the modifier, the selection changes to contain only the entries you highlighted. Removing units wouldn't be useful for my usual use case of selecting two groups of units among 3+ fleets dispersed in the system. I can see ways that the local tab could be transformed to allow this, but currently it's not that useful - you have to switch to it, first of all, which adds a lot of overhead. I guess some fusion/harmonization of the selection list and local tab is in order, but this is more about proposing a small improvement to the current UI. |
