Summary | 0021788: Show transport mode status inside "Selected Ships and/or Fleets" window
Description | Now that we're able to select fleets from anywhere in the galaxy, it would be helpful to have some indiciation of transport mode status of the fleet(s) inside the bottom right selection tooltip. That way we can know instantly without needing to hover over the fleet line, click into the Fleets sidebar, or eyeball the fleet with the camera. Something like in the attached mockup, where: * The top instance is an offscreen fleet that has been told to load its ships, and the figures tell you "how many I have loaded / size of fleet". It may be that the second number should be the number of available constructed ships instead (in case some are destroyed / unbuilt). * Middle instance is a fleet that is in Load mode, and all ships are safely gathered in. * Bottom instance is a fleet in Unload mode, so we obviously know that in this case, moving the fleet would have ships travel individually, outside of the flagship (which is probably undesirable most of the time).

Nice mockup. Personally I like this idea - the information is helpful and loading progress would really help to know when a fleet is ready to go. (We might have a different icon underlay to differentiate between loading and fully loaded too.) A whole fleet can afford to take two lines worth of space in the selection dialog, and by having it be this tall, it introduces enough space so that the fleet icon could be displayed next to the fleet name, so you have its icon shape and hotkey to help you recognize it and interact with it quickly. I don't know if Chris has specific plans for the selection view, given that after reorganizing the sidebar a lot of info will likely be more similar. But the big advantage of the selection view is that it's always visible. With the sidebar you need to get to the correct section first, which always feels like a chore. |
