Summary | 0022040: Hit-and-run bursting with transport flagships
Description | NB was talking about how instigator bases are too easy to burst down (i), and this got me to thinking about the fundamental reason why. -(i) https://bugtracker.arcengames.com/view.php?id=22029 It's transports. I have to say that, having done this, it feels a bit cheesy to zoom up to a target with your transport, unload your fleet and burst it down, then load back in and zip out. Yes, this is hit and run tactics, but it also feels optimal and too easy. I don't favor a blanket nerf to this tactic, but I do think it could be made more interesting with some modifications. Perhaps transport flagships should be diversified so that this capability (no cooldown on loading and unloading for the transport) was only available to a type of transport flagship, rather than all transport flagships. The concept of types for transport flagships could spice them up in general, since they have great potential but currently suffer from Plain Jane Syndrome. Or this capability could be implemented as a fleet perk for fleets with transports flagships. In summary, I think the hit-and-run tactics provided in the status quo could use adjustment. Yes, all transports should allow for hit-and-run tactics to an extent, but the instantaneous nature of it across all transport flagships is less interesting and too heavily promotes the tactical burst exploit I outlined above. The tactical burst is legitimate and interesting in moderation, but it becomes uninteresting when it is too dominant.

I've put in a unload-firing delay on flagships. When unloading your ships will now not be able to fire for several seconds (hovering the flagship will tell you how long the delay is). See what you think in the next release |
