Summary | 0022476: ARS unlocks should state clearly whether a ship line is small, medium, or large for that ship type
Description | Currently, when I look at an ARS, I see something like: Huge Frigate 2x Tiny Swarmer 72x Not An X-Wing, Honest 25x And I have no idea if those numbers are good or bad. I'm on my first run through the game; I don't have the experience to know whether or not 72 tiny swarmers is a decently-sized fleet or if it's the lowest that the ARS could possibly have rolled. In fact, until someone mentioned it on Discord, I had no idea that ARSs actually randomized the ship line size! I thought a "tiny swarmer" line unlock was *always* 72 ships! Sure, I could ask on Discord, or I could dig through the game files, or I could painstakingly go over every line of the ship's stats to try to work out if 72 swarmers is equivalent in strength to 25 x-wings... but I shouldn't have to. I'm making an important decision, I want to feel that all of the information I need to make that decision is actually available, in the game, without being needlessly obfuscated. Otherwise I'm just cluelessly fumbling, and clueless fumbling feels really bad for the player. Please, change the ARS detailed tooltips and the hacking menu to display something more like this: Huge Frigate 2x (strong line) Tiny Swarmer 72x (medium line) Not An X-Wing, Honest 25x (very weak line) Or just list the approximate Strength value for each ship line. That way, I can make an intelligent, informed decision whether to take the strongest line in the ARS, or whether to take a weaker line that complements my current unlocks. Making intelligent, informed decisions feels good!

By preference, I would prefer a solution that removes this arbitrary variation altogether, but if it's here to stay then I would absolutely approve of this suggestion. The current interface simply doesn't provide important information required for a new player to do more than guess. |
I think adding the range as something that pops up with you hit ctrl (x - y) would be better, but small/medium/large is fine if we don't want to show exact numbers. |
Give that we have a new fixed range option, this is lower priority now. |
There's now a game lobby options to avoid this problem. |
The "Remove Unlock Variance in Capturables" option is nice, but when variance is turned on, I still think the ARS hacking menus and tooltips should display whether a given roll is high, low, or medium. I don't see any benefit to obfuscating that information. |
