Summary | 0022485: Fireteams for Players
Description | I think there would be some benefit to creating fireteams for the player, based off some simple rules: When unloading ships of a fleet each ship type (mostly ship lines for themselves, unless there's 2 or more of the same ship line present) enter a fireteam. When the player orders a selected number of ships to do a certain action all of these leave their original fireteam and get into a new one that executes the player's orders. When finished they return to their respective ship type fireteams. This would I imagine greatly improve the way player ships like to spread out and do whatever on their own in FRD.

Fireteams don't really do much for tactical battles; that's handled by the generic targeting/pursuit mode code. Fireteams are primarily a mechanism for strategic decision making and coordination for non-player factions. If you'd like to turn the game over to fireteams to play for you then player-allied marauders (or scourge for DLC) can do it. It's actually really fun to be the facilitator for your powerful allies. |
