Summary | 0022580: Dyson spheres will often get taken back by a weak AI ursurper fleet
Description | Even on high intensity and small ursurper waves (for example 3 Strength wave against an 8 Intensity Dyson sphere), the AI seems to have no problems to take the planet back. This makes me feel like I have to either babysit them or just ignore their planet and hope that the AI can defend their planet well enough that I dont need to worry about the Dyson attacking me.

A note here is that the Sphere is allowed to free itself again if it gets Reconquested. |
I would expect the dyson to be able to free itself once the AI reconquests it; it gets bonus income to do that. Are you not observing this? |
I can imagine it would seem a bit silly for the dyson sphere to repeatedly bounce between free and AI control. Maybe after being freed for the first time it should set up some defenses? |
The Spheres manage to free themselves again sooner or later, so the problem I have with that is, for the most part, just like Fluffiest said. If the Sphere is near your Territory though, it can become a lot scarier. One moment, there are allied Dyson ships patrolling your territory, often wandering deep into your territory, the next they start attacking you on your homeworld or economic stations. |
It also feels weird that the Sphere becomes hostile to you because the AI reconquers the planet. While one could say that you allied yourself with them by freeing them - thus disappointing them when you don't help them out - the impact the Spheres can have on the AI is in my opinion just not worth the trouble of always having either a fleet or a battlestation nearby to help out. So right now the Spheres feel to me like they are just not worth the trouble: Too strong (or not enough benefits) to attack them (hacking, command station), too much of a hassle (or again, not enough impact against the AI) to bother allying. |
Intensity 7 Spheres are a notable step up. I've had one controlling half a galaxy by itself. |
I also found them pretty annoying to play with. At least the existing dysons fleet could stick to being allied/enemy rather than swap depending on the sphere. That would make the shift less jarring and game-ending. |
