So, the reason it works the way it does now is that we USED to have it work the way you're suggesting, but people would be a few pixels off and try to place something with precision, and then it would jump way the heck over somewhere else nearby. Depending on how crowded the area is, this could be a big deal -- and depending on what you're placing.
Things started feeling vastly better when we changed it so that when you're placing one thing it naturally assumes that you mean place it THERE, wherever there is that you're saying. It lets people do things with precision. But when you're wanting to have a bunch of stuff just get in a general area, that other style of logic kicks in and things work nicely there, too.
Right now we have kind of the best of both worlds. When you mis-click in the other style it gets absolutely infuriating for everyone as a player. |

Can you please add a personal settings option to revert it to the other way? |

my problem is when I want 3 turrets on one wormhole and 3 turrets on another wormhole, and I don't have 10 turrets to ctrl-click twice to get them into each of the spots quickly, and now it takes 5 times longer for to place 6 turrets than ti would take for me to place 10 turrets |

I'll work on a setting for that when I get the chance; I see your point. |
