Summary | 0002276: Neinzul Commandos still underpowered
Description | The AP increase on the Commandos is nice, but they still seem really lackluster compared to basic fighters. I believe a small damage increase (from 2000 to 2500 for mk1 maybe? either that or increase damage multipliers to x4) would help, and an armor boost as well (they currently have same armor, 2/3rds the HP of fighters, about the same DPS, and same ship cap) to keep them competitive would be nice. As is, compared to fighters, Commandos are always going to have much less time in combat because of the attrition pulling some units away, so even though individually they have roughly the same DPS as fighters, as a group they have significantly less DPS. More armor would make them more survivable to enemy fire without changing the HP balance (though really, they have far too few hitpoints and matching their HP to Weasels and Vultures may be a good idea instead). Because of the survivability issues of Commandos, I tend to find Weasels as being a much better choice of combat ship. In addition, the tooltip for Commandos should probably be changed, because they are TERRIBLE against heavy defenses.

Alternatively, to go along with the name "commando" (seeing as commando forces are usually smaller and more dangerous, but "light" infantry), leave scout ability, and drop cap down to half that of fighters and triple all stats while maintaining (or maybe doubling) cost (HP, armor, damage, maybe armor piercing, attrition, leave attack rate same). Alternatively, don't increase hitpoints by as much (maybe 1.5x), still increase the armor, and give them radar dampening at whatever range their guns are (3,300 I think?). That way, only things that they can shoot can actually shoot them, which is pretty commando-ish, and makes them kind of a cross between space planes, eyebots (without the "ignore forcefield" part), and some delicious neinzul flavor. |
