Summary0023061: Ships Rubber Band
Description If I select a large group of ships and tell them to fly to a location, sometimes some of them will rubberband back to where they started after arriving at the destination. I undestand that they will "push" each other out of the way a little bit, especially larger ships, but in this case they will snap back to the other side of the system (wherever they started from). The bigger the group, the more problematic this seems to get. With small groups I'll have maybe one or two that snap back, but with large groups I'll have a huge number of ships that I cannot get to go where I want.

I play the game on 5x speed and often will issue orders while paused. The problem seems to be more prevalent with frigates and flagships than regular ships. The more ships I try to move at once, the more will snap back. This happens in every game I play, and is not specific to any scenario.

I also almost always have a Raider or Dagger ship in my fleet, so all ships move the same speed, in case that matters. I haven't tested explicitly to see if the problem goes away when I remove them though.

Having a save game with instructions is the sort of thing that will make this a much easier problem to work.

I figured out how to reproduce the bug, and you shouldn't need a save file since it happens in all games.
1. Set game speed to 5x (can reproduce with 1x, but it is quicker and easier to reproduce with 5x).
2. Build a large fleet of ships (1000 ships across several flagships seems to reproduce reliably).
3. Select all ships.
4. Right click to move all of the ships to some location.
5. Pause the game.
6. Right click a different distant location on the same system.
7. Unpause the game.
8. Watch as all of your ships move to the destination, and then a portion of them move back to where they started.

If the bug doesn't present itself, repeat the process a few times. The problem is a tad racy, but still happens well over 50% of the time (in some situations it is probably around 90%, in particular really large battles).

The issue appears to be directly related to pausing the game. If you leave the game unpaused while moving ships around everything works fine, but if you move while paused

I don't actually get to play the game; my spare time is spent developing the game, so I don't have a ton of saves just sitting around. If you can provide a save game that you know works (with a "try it a couple times, but it will work") then this bug is much more likely to be worked on promptly.

1. Load save game (should start in paused state at 5x speed).
2. Open planet Junction VII
3. Press 1 to select ship group 1.
4. Hold shift and press 2 to select ship group 2.
5. Right click on the far right side of the system to trigger a move to there.
6. Unpause the game for a second so ships start moving.
7. Pause the game shortly after unpausing long before they arrive at their destination (I reproduced with 0000001:0000001 second unpause duration).
8. Right click on the far left side of the system.
9. Unpause the game and watch as your ships all move to the left side of the system, but some portion of them rubber band back to the middle of the system where they started.
