Description | Ships with auto-kite behaviour (sentinel frig, snipers) spaz out against dampening targets. Once in range, they try to get out of the range. Right clicking directly on the target doesn't do anything, ships just stay in one place. If the target is under a forcefield, things get even worse. | ||||

Raider auto-kite also does this. Issuing an experimental auto-kite order also does this. |

Auto kite + radar dampening is rather errr broken. You move every ship in range and they move out of range again before they often even fire. Disabling auto kite and positioning the fleet right on top of targets allows you to kill targets, but specially when nuking FFs and the like it is rather painfull to micro. Edit: this happened to me in 4.066 |

Dampening with anything that kites just adds a pointless micro, tbh. If Chris and Keith want to prevent snipers sniping guard structures, I'm sure there can be a more elegant solution present. New ammo/hull types? I'm okay with that (a la carefully applied changes, not sweeping heavy-handed changes) - if it works. New mechanic to attrition attacking snipers/kiters/whatever without dampening? I'm also okay with that. New units that counter sniper shots without making them too micro-managed or outright obsolete? Also works with me. Anyone remember the old 'shield' system? Radar dampening is just that. We got rid of it for a reason, I thought. |

Radar dampening isn't the old shield system, not even close, and it's also not going away. We have considered removing auto kite, though. But in this case, it's just a matter of fixing the particular bug case. |

In 4.067 there no longer is an option for auto kiting, I actually ended up setting engies to only aid stuff with a R-drain of 1 or less ... :) Edit: nvm, somehow missed you relocated the auto-kite setting. Really have come to apreciate having it turned of though :) |

This isn't just a problem with auto-kite, but units that have [i]forced[/i] kite behavior (like snipers) as part of their listed abilities. |

I hope you don't get rid of auto-kite, as without it, I'd feel compelled to micromanage to get the same effect. Ships should just try to kite at their effective maximum range, which, if they are subject to radar damping, should be just inside the RD radius. |
