I can't duplicate this in 2.703. It's possible that I fixed this by accident, or perhaps this was a multiplayer thing? If you are able to make it happen still, please do let me know!

Finally came back to this. Christmas/New Year has kept me busy.

Since you had trouble replicating I looked in to my own setup:
Current beta: Place multiple turrets doesn't work.
Steam Verify: No problems and place multiple turrets doesn't work.
Delete and reinstall game: Place multiple turrets doesn't work.
Fresh install on a different PC with a different steam account: Place multiple turrets doesn't work.
Downgrade way back to [v2618_last_before_new_ui]: Place multiple turrets works fine.
Restored to current beta (2.713): Place multiple turrets doesn't work.

To clarify:
Old behaviour: Select turret, control click an empty space, 5 turrets appear.
New behaviour: Select turret, control click an empty space, 1 turret appears.

I was not able to duplicate that issue either (with 2.713 and your save game). Could you provide some information about your display settings?

I think I've worked out the issue. Control-shift-click doesn't work. Control-click does. I also went back to [v2618_last_before_new_ui] and found both control-click and control-shift-click did work back then. Sorry I didn't realise the difference till now, control-shift-click is so much my default it seems I don't even know I'm doing it.

Oh, and to clarify the save shouldn't matter, I probably shouldn't have attached it as it just confuses things. It happens in every game 100% of the time (unless somehow it effects only some PCs).

I just realised that the game doesn't deselect a building even when you don't hold shift. That explains why no one else has complained about this. It's odd, but fairly trivial. Only people like me with "shift to build multiple" burned into their brain will even notice...

Ohhhh, this explains a lot! Thanks for looking into this so much more.

Yeah, I changed it a few years ago to make you stay in build mode (like a citybuilder) until you right-click to get out of it.

* The keybind for "Hold For Yellow Pings" is now X, rather than Shift+Ctrl.
** This prevents issues where anything that was "just ctrl" or "just shift" was not working anymore if you held Ctrl and Shift at the same time.
** Basically, when we have modifier keys that are a combo of lesser things, we don't want to trigger this, right? If you think about a word processor, as a simple example, hitting Ctrl+A should select all and not ALSO type the letter A.
** There weren't really any direct issues from this, except that anyone who reflexively holds Shift down wile using place-multiple (Ctrl or Alt) would find that it failed for them. Now that will work again.
