Summary | 0024642: DLC 3 Concept; minor faction influencing
Description | Notating this down so we don't forget BadgerBadgerBadger: yo. crazy brain wave you know how you can set "P1" or "Important" or "Danger" as text options for the galaxy map Why not have a "Target for Allied Faction Fireteams" settings that would be easy to check in the fireteam "pick target" code Democracy? Democracy!: that's a good idea. zeusalmighty428: that sounds freaking cool that would really incentivize using that system! I haven't been using the priority system much yet (nor have i really been playing seriously) The basic idea behind this is that you can manually influence minor factions to perform specific actions. Current command ideas "Defend here" Faction concentrates most of it's forces to defend this location and adjacent planets "MAX security" Faction dedicates ALL units to defend this location and adjacent planets "Suicide" this target (zeusalmighty428) "Secure area" Faction concentrates most of it's forces to attack this planet "Free roam attack" Faction concentrates most of it's forces to attack this planet AND adjacent planets. "precision strike" Faction sends a fireteam to attack this planet A setting on a Flagship "Minor faction allies follow me" (BadgerBadgerBadger) Set patrol point. And give it three options A, B, and C. Where it will have teams move around between those locations. (CRCGamer)

Some further thoughts, from a discord discussion with chris, myself and zeus. This is speculative design work and you should not assume that any of these will appear in the game. There are 3 styles of player-controlled faction. Vassals: A human empire has some Vassal factions; these are minor factions allied to you but that you can influence. Goal: I want to play a regular human empire, but also to give direction to my scourge allies to make them better able to support my fleets. Gameplay: regular human empire gameplay, but with the ability to give Missions to your vassals. These can basically be "Please attack Murdoch and kill all the enemy forces" or "Please defend Old Murdoch" You Win or Lose with a regular human empire. Note that if you are playing shared-human-faction MP then someone could choose to just run the Vassal factions. Suzerain: A Suzerain is a player faction that influences minor factions that are on a minor faction team. Goal: I want to play as the Dark Zenith + Marauders and crush the AI (and my friend Sue, who is playing as a human empire) Gameplay: The Suzerain can say "Okay, lets start the invasion". In the invasion, some new planets are created on the galaxy map that aren't linked to the existing galaxy. These planets will have your units on them. You can then say "Okay, link my invasion to the rest of the galaxy" and those wormholes will appear. You can then also give orders to your allies like the regular Vassal. You get a unique new King Unit that is on one of your Invasion planets; when this is destroyed, you lose. You win by destroying the AI overlord. This mode allows for solo-play (just as your minor faction) or PvP. BBEG: A player who gets to influence the AI. Goal: I want to play as the AI and beat my friends Gameplay: You have control of some AI mechanics. You can see the AI wave budget and choose when/where to send waves, or you can give the Hunter/Warden targets. You win and lose with the AI This mode is pure PvP, but the intent should be more "I'm the DM of this game and I want my friends to have fun before I kill them", not "ruthless PvP win as hard as possible" Note that if you are playing as Suzerain or DM and do nothing, the Minor Factions or AI will just play normally |
|
DM mode also works for things like You are the AI fighting off a bunch of minor faction invasions and You are watching the AI and minor faction invasion happen in a sandbox, and you can manipulate the battle one way or another depending on your mood. Maybe the DZ is losing, so they get more ships. Maybe the DZ is winning, so you want to spawn an Exo. |

This is in, as Vassals |
