If you don't have expansions enabled, almost all of the quickstarts fail to load with errors like

When I Try to use quick start I get the attached error message.
Custom start and loading an existing game works.

The quickstart you are trying to load requires the Scourge, which are in The Spire Rises expansion. You do not have that expansion loaded.

Which quickstart is this? It shouldn't be available for the base game.

After buying the expansion the error did indeed not appear anymore.

I experienced this same error prior to buying the expansions. As far as I could tell everything in the basic tab beyond 1-2 triggered it

Me and my friends just got this game yesterday and every single quickstart gives this error message. If would be great if this can be fixed (or just disabled stating they require the dlc) as we assume they are easier scenarios to ease us into the game rather than going straight into custom and being overwhelmed.

There was a patch just before I opened this issue, I assume they just mixed something up. Before that I played some of the quickstarts just fine without the expansions (got me hooked enough to buy the expansions)
I suggest to give them a few days, I'm sure they will fix it soon.

* Fixed a regression in the prior version that was causing older quickstarts to not be loadable unless you had DLC1 installed, or sometimes also DLC2.
** Essentially, some of these quickstarts were saved with those DLC enabled, which normally would be a failure state for loading the quickstart in general. However, our central code tries to maximize compatibility (and hassle on anyone creating and distributing a quickstart), so we normally are able to load those games in and strip out the DLC-related parts for purposes of actually starting a new game.
** Because of some unrelated improvements in the prior version to make xml parsing give fewer errors if there is a typo, this wound up messing up the ability to load quickstarts that include non-enabled DLC or mods. It was less a traditional bug, and more of a... highly nondesirable reaction in a complicated system.
** Anyhow, it's fixed now!
