Summary0002523: Threat from planet with Dyson sphere
DescriptionI have a planet with a Dyson sphere scouted and because of the Dyson gatling attacking it, this AI planet produces 400-1000 firepower threat level even if that planet if 5-6 hops away from me. It's usually 5-20 ships that make this firepower aswell. It's mostly annoying seeing you have 2.4k F threat level and always realizing 1.0k of that is from a planet that will never attack you.

It's spelled Dyson. Freeman Dyson was the crazy genius who invented them.

Get within a hop or two of that planet and you bet the Dyson sphere will attack you. ;) But it would be nice if scouts didn't wake up Dyson spheres. I guess if you wanted to be cheap, you could revert to an earlier save as soon as you find the sphere planet, mark that planet and then not send anything else there until you're ready to deal with it.

Edit: Of course the real problem with Dyson spheres in AI War is that they're faaaaaaaaar too tiny. A Dyson sphere orbiting a planet isn't anything like a real Dyson sphere would be. But to make it realistic it would be the size of thousands of planets, so that does complicate matters. I guess you could make it part of the background, but then where would the gatlings spawn from?

Actually, dyson spheres are always awake, it has nothing to do with scouts. This is a really tricky one, because in a real sense these ships are threat, they just don't make it to your home. Deferring for now.

Sounds like a similar issue to what I got hit with, only it was a delayed threat for me (they didn't add to the threat until after I reloaded, strangely).

Going with this wiki

http://arcengames.com/mediawiki/index.php?title=AI_War_-_Golems#Interacting_With_A_Dyson_Sphere

I'm interested in these 2 parts:

''and doesn't cause much trouble until you come around the neighborhood.

When the Dyson Sphere notices fighting, it tends to wake up a bit and starts sending out Dyson Gatlings to quell the disturbance''

What is considered ''come arond the neighborhood'' and ''notices fighting''. I only sent scouts to that planet yet it seems the dyson ''notices fighting'' or are they're always sending gatling (if that's what you meant x4000 by always awake)and the wiki is simply outdated?

ps: should I post these question in here because of the relevence to the ''bug'' or should I stick to the forums for these added questions?

Since these questions are related to what is causing this issue in the first place, I think you are fine asking them here.

TechSY730 -- yours is a bug with actual threat that shouldn't be there. This report is just about a display issue where it's displaying threat that is real and intended, just that never attacks you (dyson gatlings can't go that far). It's more a logical optimization problem rather than a bug.

Levy -- they're always sending gatlings, but they send more when you have a lot of ships on the planet.

Oh okay. It just seems that these past few versions have a couple of issues with minor factions messing around in "deep space", hence why I am drawing premature comparisons.

EDIT: I just realized I am getting off topic...again
Yea it seems weird that mere "scouting" can awaken a dyson. Sure, both the dyson and the AI know you have a ship there, but they can also see that it is non-military (they don't necessarily know its a scout though). Since the AI doesn't give a flip about non-military cloaked ships on their planet, why should "TEH SFEER OF DOOM" care either?
