Summary | 0025358: Turrets _Never_ Point At What They're Shooting At
Description | It's only a visual problem but it's a jarring one to see turrets with barrels and wotnot always pointing 'north' no matter what or where they're firing.

I don't think anything ever points where it's shooting except by lucky coincidence. That's just kinda how the game is. Making the models aware like that would be a tremendous amount of work. |

Turrets are probably a good case of something that should rotate, though. They did in the first game, and it is super odd seeing everything pointing north. |
|
if you can do it without it being a headache then that would be a nice improvement! |

So orientation information is only applied through direction of movement and as turrets don't move they never receive orientation information? It's a shame because you go to all the effort of making these nice looking turrets only to have the not inconsiderable disconnect of the guns never actually pointing at what they're shooting at. It looks very odd indeed, somewhat undoing otherwise sterling visual work. I'm glad you said that they used to pivot in AIW1 as I remembered the same but I couldn't find any footage to actually confirm that. I may also be misremembering but I _think_ beam turrets in AIW2 do pivot, but I may just be supplanting memory with wishful thinking. ;) |

To add to this; If possible it would be a really neat addition to the game, it would make battles noticeably more pleasing and intriguing to watch. In my opinion it isn't nearly as relevant for ships since often enough they don't have immediately noticeable weapons or are described as using missiles which, well, missiles can turn on their own (lets ignore that projectiles also do this ingame since smart bullets are a thing and they're probably too much hassle to implement). Then half the time the ship is chasing something where it ends up pointing at whatever it is also shooting at. As for turrets I remember being a bit disappointed when they didn't turn to face their target back when I first got the game. Due to them being stationary by definition it is noticeably more jarring to see them just frozen in space as opposed to the spinning stations and ships zipping around. |
