Summary | 0027291: Multiplayer debug log after affected client aborted threads for game stuck on waiting for the client
Description | Continuing on from my previous reports- we are still seeing semi-regular freezes in a multiplayer game caused by waiting on a client. The player does not see anything unusual except the game pausing. Note that if the affected player quits and rejoins the game, the game carries on without issue, which suggests that only one player at a time is affected. As requested, and since the update from last week, here is a log from an affected client who hit 'abort all threads' after the first time this happened. Note we did not try it with everyone aborting all threads yet; as the affected player was able to rejoin to continue the game, that is the solution we used for the rest of the evening. Note this issue normally affects different players, but this time it was this one player suffering the issue repeatedly. The log is from the end of our session; the abort happened at about 7:40pm.

Note there were some smaller issues that did not crash the game during gameplay as well- they should be in the log. Would the host log help? |
So, in this case, the player who hit abort all threads did not actually then resume playing without logging out and back in, is that right? The only thing from the log on the abort was this: Will abort task: _PSec.StrengthCounting', which has been running for 0.0578449 seconds. And that was just a minor harmless collateral damage. From the look of things, the client was not stuck, not in a deadlock sense. This seems more like a thing with an ack going missing, or something like that. |
Indeed, he aborted the threads, that did not immediately make the game work, and he decided to log out and back in again, and then things proceeded ok (until the next time it happened). |
So far the consensus seems to be "If the client gets stuck, everyone exiting the program and trying to reconnect seems to resolve the problem" |
It's only ever needed to be the affected client that needs to re-connect for us, which is not too onerous. It always seems to be around 2.4 seconds behind that the host says the client is stuck at. |
