Summary0002787: Tractor beam turrets still too fragile
DescriptionThe Mk. I versions still die way too fast for how much they cost.
Thanks to that buff Mk. II and Mk. III versions got a few versions back, they seem to be fairing better, but still not quite worth their cost.

This is sort of a big deal as it is one of the few stalling tools the player gets at the beginning of the game.

What surprises me is that the MkI turret has half the HP it should have in the 1-2-3 progression of mark levels.

I can't remember what kind of health tractor beams had back in 3.0 days, but if that kind of durability is required, then tractor beams should have an amount of health equal to 4x what it was in 3.0 (to deal with bump of normal AI war speed from Epic/4x to Fast and Deadly), multiplied by the average damage boost ships have seen in the jumps from 3.0 to 5.0. That would keep them close to 3.0 durability, especially considering tractor beam turrets get no bonuses from the jump to Fast and Deadly, unlike most everything else.

An increase sounds like it might be effective. For my part, I just stick a mark I forcefield over them and make sure my other turrets are a little ways away so they don't get their firepower cut by the forcefield.

** Base Health from 210k/840k/1680k => 560k*mk.
** Base Armor Rating from 1200 (flat) => 450*mk.
