Summary | 0003155: Change FF immunity so raiders are a potential threat again.
Description | I had an idea about the raiders while watching yet another wave of them hammer futilely against the FF. Do something similar to how reclamation used to work, and change the ships with FF immunity into "able to penetrate x marks of force field." Where X is the mark number, maybe x+2 for raider starships and guardians. If a unit is inside a M1 FF, a M1 raider can hit it. If the defending unit is inside a M2 FF, or inside two M1 FF influences at the same time, it's safe. Along with this modification, the home FF could be made markless, a core unit in all but HP. As a result, the early game merely requires using more FF or unlocking M2 sooner than usual to keep the difficulty on par with non-raider using AIs, but defenses run dry much sooner, requiring careful management to hold the raider ships at bay.

I like this a lot. Makes higher mark FFs more than just an HP boost. I'm not sure about the stacking though being the same as having a mkII FF, and I KNOW the devs will not support the home-FF being a core ship, considering the "give raiders a new shot type" report comments. |

Err, markless is not the same as a core (Mk. V) unit. It varies from case to case, but for some mark dependent mechanics they are considered Mk. 0, and for others are simply immune to that mechanic. Markless units are handled very inconsistently. Thankfully, there are not many units that are markless. Right now, the home command station is considered Mk. I, in part to help prevent such odd behavior. |

Also, I think this Mk. based ff penetration is a bit too complicated, I wouldn't mind it all that much on certain non-melee fleet ship types. However, I don't think that raid starships or raider guardians should get this, as it would significantly weaken their role as a counter for the force-field mechanic. |
