Summary | 0003164: Anti-starship arachnid won't attack Lightning guardian.
Description | Hey there, It's the same guy who ploughed a galaxy with the anti-star arachnid and then was foolish enough to complain about it. I've finally gotten these nifty core units again, and well, They've gone from broken by unstoppable, to broken by unusable. I can't attack guardians with them, and the number of AI starships I see in an hour I can count on one hand. So, make them able to attack guardians, and check that they're able to attack all the other large ships. They'll come in handy then when I awaken the avengers, I hope.

IMO, they need to share the same targeting restrictions that bomber starships have. If thier attack power needs to be nerfed a bit to keep them balanced, so be it. The increased number of ship types they can hit will be more than enough to make up for that. Also, as a reminder, their tool-tip still says they can do engine-damage, when in their current form they cannot. |
Wait, the same restrictions as the bomber starships would be a bad idea, as it would let them attack forcefields, which is clearly not intended for them. Instead their "valid target lost" should be the intersection of bomber starships and mobile military. Whether they should or should not be able to target fortresses is debatable. |
I'd prefer they be able to hit only movable units, but have it set somehow so they're not as much a threat to smaller ships, like dropping damage to nearly nothing, but multiplying base damage by energy used by the victim. |
If forcefields are an issue then give them antimatter bombs. Multiplying damage by the target's energy use is the Impulse Reaction Emitter's shtick. |
Not sure where this change/boost/nerf should go, but I do think it needs some loving in order to make them more usefull than 'meatshield' (generally speaking). |
Yea something needs to be done about them, as Red Spot says they are pretty much just meat shield right now. Also they share their text with "spider bot" while not having the same function which should be fixed |
Idea: put a limit on how much total engine damage a ship can do. Attacker across the top, defender down the side, number the percentage that the ship's speed can be reduced by. It could be curved exponentially or something, but something like this, along with a saner attack on the mark V spider, would make them fit in line again, and useful in the final assault. 1 2 3 4 V 1 50 60 70 80 90 2 40 50 60 70 80 3 30 40 50 60 70 4 20 30 40 50 60 V 10 20 30 40 50 |

Do you mean a cap on the engine damage per shot, or are you proposing that, for example, a Mk. I ship cannot take a Mk. II ship below 40% engine health? If it is the latter, what would be able to take a ship down to 0 engine health? (making them move at the excruciatingly slow speed of 1) If it is the former, would it be a straight cap (so a Mk. I do more than 40 engine damage per shot on a Mk. II) or a ratio, (so a Mk. I would do only 40% of their base engine damage on a Mk. II)? |
