Summary0004145: Please let me disable the new underlay cursor!
DescriptionOr fix the lag :-)

Having two of them is very visually distracting for me. Especially since the underlay cursor lags the OS cursor significantly. (Win7 x64/Intellimouse drivers for me)

I never noticed a problem with spell aim before, but spells do seem to aim at the underlay cursor, after playing around for a bit. So they're definately off.

The spells aren't off at all -- that's where unity is detecting your mouse cursor. It's kind of helpful to know, right? Because we can't fix the lag, given that it's part of the engine. I could make it so that you can turn the overlay off, but the overlay is just an information vector about what the spells are going to do either way.

I mean, off from the OS cursor. If it's a Unity thing, hmm. Not sure why it would be more than 2-3 frames but oh well.

I think I'd prefer to have the OS cursor and no underlay cursor, even if that means aiming is off by a bit. The two is distracting, and I think I'd prefer to have the OS cursor because its movement is more directly associated with my input. Maybe I'm just sensitive to lag.

Was just wondering if it was off more on higher end GPUs -- if the CPU pipeline didn't block and let the simulator get many frames ahead. But it has about the same amount of lag on my laptop. FWIW

I would prefer to have the OS cursor hidden. I'd rather have accurate aiming, personally.

But I do agree that two cursors is a bit distracting.

Partially helped:

* Put in a fix to reduce or remove the mouse lag depending on the game setup. Doesn't seem to fully reduce it on OSX for me, but for windows it keeps the cursor underlay and the cursor at 1:1 movement. And it's better on OSX. Unity has two different mouse subsystems, and instead of just using the GUI one now we're using both in conjunction for setting the mouse coordinate that the game actually uses for spells, etc. This is what AI War and Tidalis do, not sure why we didn't do that here before.

I'm putting this on my list for tomorrow, though, for hiding either the OS cursor, the cursor underlay, or showing both (which will remain the default, I think).

They aren't at 1:1 for me in Windows, is that because of my awful vid card?

It isn't 1:1 for me either in Windows. That's with a GTX 260 video card.

I haven't tried Mac OS yet.

It depends on whether you are running windowed, whether you have vsync on, and whether you're getting a full 60fps, I think.

On Windows 7 and Mac OS X, I run full screen with V-sync on at 60hz. I haven't tried windowed yet on either platform.

Engine considerations notwithstanding, and no offence intended, but the new dual-pointer looks awful to me. I really don't like it. I would strongly prefer one or the other.

* It is now possible to use either/or of the custom and OS mouse cursors. The default is just to the OS cursor now. This can be controlled in the first tab of the settings window.
