Summary0004786: Rooms with Pac-Man walls
DescriptionI'd like to see some rooms with looping borders, where you can fall through the floor and come out the ceiling or do the same left and right. I'd generally like to see more "abstract" platforming things, though perhaps they could be part of a themed region like the Deep in which the boundaries of reality are a bit weak. That said, left-to-right looparound is perfectly reasonable physics if you imagine it as a curved room. Things like this could also be especially good for adding variety to boss fights --- and as far as the up-down goes, for solving the issue where non-flying enemies tend to wind up in a pile on the lowest surface.

I'll mark this as a feature suggestion and see what others think, but, personally, I'm not in favor of this. It just seems out of place to me.

I think adding more abstract platformer elements like looping rooms (especially up-down) will break the feeling of exploring a `real world', and that feeling is (still) rather fragile to begin with.

Maybe in The Deep?

This actually could be an interesting feature in umbra vortex missions, since reality is already kinda 'warped' in there, perhaps 'wrapping' of the rooms edges could be implemented there without breaking the real world feel of the game.

In Umbra Vortex Missions, maybe.

Outside of that, I'd say not normally or in entire chunks; spawning a couple of linked gateways (fall in one, fall out of the other) would be feasible though.

Maybe it could be a chunk event like Infestations, it looks normal, but it's actually a maze that can send you in circles.

I remember one game based on a movie that AVGN reviewed where you think you are going somewhere but it actually takes you in circles unless you entered the correct entrance order.

A house could actually be the real passage to the next chunk, disguised, while the usual way to the next chunk takes you to the entrance or the inside of a house.
