Summary | 0007029: SP pause doesn't always stop world clock (WAS: suggetsion: some way to do a full world pause in single player)
Description | I understand the reason for just pausing the chunk in multiplayer, but playing single player, there are many times when I'd like to pause the game for an indefinite period without having the world mission timers ticking away the whole time. Life is full of many interruptions (phone calls, kids, wife, potty breaks, etc) and a 5 minute AFK can unexpectedly turn into 45+ minutes AFK, so I find myself quitting the game all the time instead of pausing to prevent this from expiring the missions. It'd be nice to be able to pause the game in a way that pauses everything so I don't have to quit out all the time. I'd be fine with this as a settings checkbox option or even if it was a separate keybind to distinguish this from the current pause behavior. ----------------------------- Edit: I am reopening this, (if possible), because the world clock does not seem to stop after 30 seconds in all cases: * I first noticed this when I paused the game mid-mission and went away for a while. Later, when I resumed play, the other missions had considerably less time than expected. * On a secret mission chunk in a region, I paused the game while the mission description was displayed, and I was able to see the timer counting down. It did not stop after 30 seconds and continued to count down for the next 2 minutes that I observed it before resuming play. * On the world map, I checked the time remaining for a mission. If I paused while on the world map, the timer stops after about 30 seconds (or maybe less?) But if I check the mission time, then quickly enter a region and pause, the world timer does not stop (as verified by resuming, going back to the world map, and again checking the time remaining). I tried this twice and both times, the mission remaining time was reduced by the entire time I was paused (about 2 minutes each time).

The world clock stops if no player actions are taken for, I believe, 30 seconds. That is what I have been relying on for when I leave my computer mid game. |

What Penumbra said is correct. You are already able to pause the entire game in SP. |
|
I didn't realize that. I had actually verified that the timers kept running while paused, but hadn't let it sit for 30 sec first. That should be fine, then. Thanks. |

Pause behavior doesn't always work as intended, it seems to make sense to reopen this ticket to retain the context instead of starting a new one. |

For 0.928: * Fixed a bug where the "world clock stops if player does nothing for 30+ seconds" logic was not even being checked while the local chunk was paused. Cute, eh? * The "world clock" now stops in single-player if the local chunk is paused, and now stops on a multiplayer-server if all chunks in memory are paused (or have no players). The world clock will also stop on a multiplayer-client if its local chunk is paused, but it will still periodically update its time from the server's world clock (that happens about every 21 seconds) if the server's world clock is still going. Thanks :) |
