Restarting the game seems to have fixed it, so it may have been a fluke? I'm not sure how to reproduce it. I tried a few times, but I only got that one failure, which was the first time the game was started after upgrading, though I doubt that's relevant. |
If you're in certain modes of gameplay, this is actually a feature rather than a bug. The timer is about 15 seconds. If you're just using keyboard-only mode, you don't really want the cursor in your way, right? We're going to be codifying the keyboard and gamepad modes a bit more tomorrow to make them more discrete, and have that behavior be limited to them only (and not the mouse+keyboard mode). |
Well, it wasn't after a timeout. The instant I stopped moving the mouse, the cursor vanished. |
That's REALLY peculiar. Was this the custom cursor or the OS one? |
I didn't touch the preferences, so I assume it was the custom cursor. It's the one with the exploding star effect. |
Yep, that's the one. Okay, thanks for the info. It sounds like maybe there were errors happening... or something. Anything logged in your runtimedata folder? |
Nothing obvious like error.log or similar. |
OK, not sure if this is related, but when I just fired the game up, my mouse button inputs weren't working. The left and right mouse buttons were firing the spell in slot 4 and 5, respectively. I reset the controls to defaults, and they still weren't working right. Actually, after further investigation, all the controls seem to been activating the ability in the slot 3 slots to the right of the button pressed. 8 and 9 fired the spells in 1 and 2. Also, while I was in the settlement testing this, one of the NPCs came up to me and started firing at me. 0.o Everything was fine until a moment ago. All buttons work as expected in the menus, btw. |
Couple of questions: 1. Did you use the mouse wheel to make the left and right mouse buttons move over in the ability bar? You should see l-click and r-click further to the side if so. 2. Are they really firing at you? Did you by any chance put down a moon lamp that they might be firing at? |
1. Apparently, that's what I did. I thought the mouse wheel changed the whole row. 2. I didn't know they'd fire at moon lamps, and I must have dropped one while I thought my controls were messed up. How embarrassing. (~_~メ) |
No worries! The moon lamp thing is a bug. |
I just had this problem and managed to find out what it was, at least in my case. Apparently I had a joystick/gamepad (of sorts) still plugged in. I didn't notice it earlier because it wasn't a real joystick/gamepad, but it was actually a PPJoy Virtual Joystick I was using with GlovePIE earlier. You might want to double check if you have a gamepad/joystick (or some device that acts like a controller) plugged in, or if your OS thinks there is one plugged in. |
My 360 controller was synced the first time I encountered it. Maybe that was it. |
I just noticed something else. The mouse wheel still scrolls the list even if the AVWW window doesn't have focus. Does that need a separate bug report? |
Regarding the gamepad thing, we'll see what we can do on that with tomorrow's updates. Regarding the mouse wheel scrolling the list when AVWW doesn't have focus, that's unfortunately already been reported and closed; bug in the underlying engine. |
Ah, that sucks. At least it's a minor one. Is there no way to petition Unity for a fix? |
"Is there no way to petition Unity for a fix?" Don't get me started on that. I've tried everything, including their paid support, to try to get them to even respond to me on several matters. Nada. |
Well, you still have a couple days to scrap Unity a write your own engine. ;) |
Hahaha. Actually, originally I did write my own engine. Then in 2010 we migrated to unity and grafted my engine on top of theirs. It's worked out phenomenally well, despite a few drawbacks like their window handling. |
Still seeing this? |
After a few dozen starts and stops, no, I have not seen this happen again. |
Great! If you do see it again, just let us know and we can revisit. :) |
It just happened again :( And continued to do it after I restarted. I restarted a third time outside of Steam, and it wasn't doing it. Not sure if that's a coincidence, or if the Steam overlay caused it. Either way, I started from Steam again, and it was fine. |
Happens to me in 1.056, didn't happen in 1.036 and below (updated from that). |
