Summary0000720: Zooming seems completely broke

I am zooming all right with the keyboard page down/page up keys. Is it possible one of the keys is not being registered properly or maybe your performance profile?

Really? It works perfectly for me. Anyone else seeing this? Fleet, if you adjust your Zoom Increment and/or Zoom Speed, does that have any effect? Do Q, W, E, R and PgUp/PgDown work?

QWER and PgUp/PgDown work fine. Adjusting the zoom settings had no effect, the game seems very unresponsive to my scroll wheel. Scrolling does work fine in my web browser.

Hmmm. If you hit F3, you can see the zoom level at the next-to-bottom line (starfield, then zoom). You can see what I mean by using PgUp/PgDown to watch it change between 1.0 and 0.008 or so.

When you have that open, and spin your mouse wheel like crazy, does it flicker or do anything?

When I spin my mouse wheel, it inconsistently zooms a little bit, and the zoom level changes accordingly. The value does not change while scrolling the wheel has no effect, and it changes as it should when the screen actually screen zooms in or out.

My scroll wheel is definitely not in the best of conditions, but it works perfectly in the browser so I don't see how that could affect it. Unless it is calibrated differently for different apps, or something like that...but I get the correct behavior for scrolling, even a little, vs a lot, it works just fine in Fx.

Possibly the sensitivity is so low on it, then, that it's not registering in AI War. I can put in a check that would get around that.

* In the last version, mouse scroll wheels with very low sensitivities could wind up not functioning at all. Fixed.

Thanks for adressing this. Were you able to actually reproduce the issue? I can test it out after I get home from school, which is a good 11 hours away.

Sure thing.

No, I was not able to reproduce the issue, but I could see where if it was lower than 0.5 sensitivity it would have rounded down to 0. Now it's always 1, period, which should work better with the in-game sensitivity adjustments, anyway (and for most folks, it probably already was 1 always).

An improvement. Zooming in seems to work fine. An odd quirk with zooming out: If I am zoomed in, and zoom out with the scroll wheel, it zooms out a little bit at a time, so I need to make several scrolling motions to zoom all the way out. And it does not really seem to zoom way out until the last zoom, until then its just small increments, and then bam- i can see all the wormholes, and its entirely zoomed out.

Contrast this with zooming in, where it takes maybe a scroll motion and a half to zoom very far in.

Do you have the zoom increments and scale on the defaults? If you adjust those, do they do what you want? All of this is centralized in such a way that there should definitely be no difference in zooming in and out unless it's a difference in how many mouse wheel events unity is getting from the OS/mouse.

I reset them to default (which both look to be on the low end of the scale), and it looks to be working OK now. When I had both settings set higher, I could do a very small scroll forward to completely zoom in, but 2 and a half full scrolls backward to zoom all the way out..I wonder why the behavior would not be symmetric.

I will fiddle around with the settings a little more, but they seem to work OK now, in the sense I can zoom in and out quickly.

Okay, whew. That is odd on the symmetry thing on the higher increments, but that's probably a post-4.0 thing. Glad this is working for you!
