Summary0008758: Unfair one-shot from Miasma Snake
DescriptionI just died without even realizing I was in danger. Looking at the message log, the final entry is "677.9 damage from Miasma Snake x 9". I don't even know what that was that killed me, but it felt like a really cheap shot.

I was in a L20 Abandoned Town, Surface With Caves, Nettle Infestation. I had just stepped out of a building. Something was coming at me, I think I shot it -- and then I heard the death sound fx...

What enemy (or which enemies) uses Miasma Snake?

I believe miasma snake comes from Large Tentacles, so I'd guess you've got a Deep migration going on. Not sure why you got hit by 9 at once, though...

I've looked through the code, and tested The Deep at level 25 in a different savegame, and can't duplicate the multi-hit issue. Miasma Snakes do hit for a ton of damage, but with that other related bug with doubled damage that was probably what made it so extreme in this particular case.

A Deep migration is certainly plausible, given my location and continent state.

It wasn't quite an instant death, but it was very quick. I came out of a door, there were several moving things on screen, and I started hearing damage noises. I panicked a bit, and (I think) fired, but then I heard the death noise. Didn't even have time to look at my Health Meter. Total elapsed time probably less than a second. Looks like repeated damage doesn't get reported to the log until after a delay to make sure it's done repeating (in this case, after I was dead).

Is it possible that I emerged from the building directly on top of the enemy? Could that have made a difference in the frequency or severity of the attack?

It's possible, but given what enemy it was, that's an enemy that you would pass through. On a per-enemy basis there is a cooldown on attacks so that they can't multi-hit you inside an interval of time. So it really would have had to have been 9 different snakes for that to happen.

It's possible that 0008526 contributed to there being multiple snakes.
