Summary0008923: Destroyed Rooms Are Not Always Empty
DescriptionI've been exploring destroyed rooms lately since I've started collecting wall-mounted lamps (it's something I wanted to do, okay?) and I've encountered two interesting things. Firstly, I've found that on rare occasions a destroyed room will contain a small chest (the kind that drops a small red enchant container), which is nice. Secondly I encountered a miniboss I'd never seen before "inside" a destroyed room today.
I say "inside" because it was partially transparent and most of it was overlapping various sections of wall - it was huge and definitely could not have fit inside the normal space of the room. In case it matters, I was in a building four cave layers below craggy highlands.

Any idea which miniboss it was? I wish you had a screenshot of them.

Those chests have always had a chance to spawn in destroyed 'basement' room types. I reported it a while back but it wasn't a big deal since they used to only drop a few health orbs when killed. Since you can now get some nice enchants out of them, that probably should be fixed.

I've also run across a destroyed boss room that played the boss music, but it was empty. Never seen one that actually tried to spawn a boss. That's rather amusing.

Sorry, no idea which miniboss. I'd never seen it before, it was partially transparent, and too big to fit on the screen. If I encounter another one, I'll be sure to take a screenshot before I kill it. I don't know if it was playing the boss music (I assume it was) since I play on mute.

To be fair, the small chests are still pretty rare from what I've seen, so leaving them in probably isn't a huge problem, I just thought they should know about it. Mostly I think they'll want to deal with the boss thing though, since they've said that one of the uses of the destroyed rooms is as a safe spot to rest if you need it.

Uploaded screenshot of a second encounter with the same type of miniboss, this time it was in a building in a cave underneath grasslands, so it's not specific to craggy highlands.

That miniboss is the Ghostly Heart, which spawns in boss rooms where no other miniboss is able to spawn. Having it spawned in a destroyed room is probably a bug, though.

roffle @ the miniboss thing.

I kinda like the idea of there being an exception to every rule, including the "rule" that destroyed rooms are always uninteresting.

:)

Buggy creature spawning aside, I'd kinda like to see more "easter egg" or otherwise "special" stuff occasionally cropping up in unlikely places, like warp gates. Just seldom enough that it's not worth actually digging around for them, but just often enough that you'll notice and be pleasantly surprised once in a blue moon.

That boss is known as the Ghostly Heart. He's meant to be in rooms where there isn't enough room for other bosses. Why he's in a destroyed room though is beyond me. Do you happen to have the world save of this?

No I don't have the world save, but if I stumble on a third one do you mean the world.dat file?

Well, the easiest is often just the entire folder, but, if not that, we'd need at least the world.dat file, the regions.dat file, and the folder for the region you are in. You can see the number of the region you are in if you press F3 in game.

The "world save" you already have might be helpful, if you can indicate which rooms had the chest/boss? (I'm actually not sure - an admin would have to verify this. Even so, it couldn't hurt to upload it anyway - provided you could point out which destroyed rooms had the unusual stuff.)

The world folder is far too big to upload in its entirety (at least as a single file) so I've uploaded a zip with world.dat, regions.dat, and the region folder for the spot I'm currently in - a destroyed room with a small chest and a trap. I'll do the same thing if/when I find another ghostly heart.

Okay, found another ghostly heart in a destroyed room. It's actually in the same region as the previously uploaded save, but I've explored quite a bit more of it now, and saved inside the relevant room.

For 1.201:

* Fixed a couple longstanding bugs where destroyed rooms were still considered for the "insert special objects" (including chests and certain boss types) and "seed monster nests".

Thanks :)
