I'm not exactly sure what you mean by this. Just to be sure we're talking about the right thing, Core Guard Posts are only found on AI homeworlds, and Core Worlds are the worlds immediately adjacent to the AI homeworlds. So, odd as it sounds, Core Guard Posts aren't on Core Worlds. |
Yes, that is normally true. Having some Core Guard Posts on the Core Worlds instead of finding them only on the Homeworld is this AI's special ability. |
Ah, so this spreads out the Core Guard Posts a little, making it a little tougher to remove them all so you can kill the AI Home Command Station, and simultaneously making each Core World slightly tougher because it has 1-3 Core Guard Posts. Thinking about it, it should probably have 3 less Core Guard Posts on the Homeworld, and +1 to +X Core Guard Posts on Core Worlds. Make X something like Roundup(6 / NumberOfCoreWorlds). So a Lattice Map with 8 connections gets 1 per Core World, but a Snake with only one or two get 1-3. Generally a slight boost in total Core Guard Posts. So yes, I like this idea. |
Wouldn't call it the Cloud, per se - I would imagine that being the AI seeding a single Core "something" on every planet. |
Not every planet (would vary too much with map size), but a limited number of widely distributed core posts would be stategically interesting, and fit the theme. I like it. |
Cloud sounds more like an AI that gets to warp its forces around at will, kinda like the Network faction in Kernel Panic. |
Actually I agree with KDR 11k. The Cloud would be an AI that can warp its forces around at will. Maybe it has a special post on all its planets that works similar to concept like the Sentry Eye does. When a certain threashold is passed it starts warping in ships. But rather than directly spawing ships of its own (If I recall the lore says that the Sentry Eye warps them from outside the galaxy) it warps in freed threat ships from elsewhere in the galaxy, whether they have a "Cloud Uplink" where they are currently at or not. In example, you attack Planet X, which has a "Cloud Uplink". Once you outnumber the AI ships there by a certain amount, it can say, start warping in freed threat ships from where they were, up to and INCLUDING any Carriers that have been spawned. While this could allow a strong enough force to lure and destroy any current threat to one location, after the human forces have either been destroyed or retreat, the threat ships then proceed to attack the nearest human world, since they are still considered freed threat ships. Probably give it a Core version that always spawns right next to the AI Home Command Center, which would make attacking the AI homeworld more difficult as well. Do note, this CAN NOT be used to pull ships that are currently attacking a human world, since they are technically not part of the threat ships, they are part of the attack ships. Coding for this would be fairly simple, since you already have the 'Threat' and 'Attack' flags in place, the "Cloud Uplink" would simply be allowed to warp to itself any ships currently flaged as 'Threat'. |
The ease of force projection means that such an AI would need fewer ships to pose the same threat to the player (KP's Network has weaker units than the other factions and doesn't get more of them either but is much more capable of bringing its full force to bear in any fight). |
