Description | The Deep Striker's waves are packaged in invasion pods, carrier-like units with a lower capacity (for more granularity), very high speed and immunity to gravity (and without the scaling weapons). They spawn at the warp gate instead of the worm hole and receive a target planet, then beeline towards that planet. Invasion pods only auto-deploy once they have reached that target planet. The pods don't care if their deployed units would be exposed to tractors or gravity or whatever, they just deploy once they reach their target planet.
The Deep Striker only matters against larger human empires where reaching a specific planet can require going through other human planets first. Against sparse empires it doesn't matter as the invasion pods deploy immediately after entering the target planet anyway. Especially choke points will have trouble with invasion pods slipping through.
Invasion pods must be immune to gravity, otherwise the Deep Striker is easily hard-countered. |
