Summary0000899: Allow per planet settings to (completely) override galaxy-wide auto construction options.
DescriptionThe new CRTL settings are great, however a small request.

I've noticed that per planet settings will override the galaxy-wide orders, but only if you wish to build more of a unit, or if it isn't already set to build at every planet. This makes sense, but I would like the option to have both the ability to auto build my normal compliment of engineers, and tick a check-box on some planets if I want them to completely ignore (or override) all galaxy-wide auto build orders.

A good example of where this is useful (for me) is the home system with its two MKII engineers. Now, I typically set 3 MKIs to auto-build at every planet, and leave assisting queues enabled. At my home planet this amounts to far too many engineers though, and I'm not able to exclude it from building those MKI engineers (without removing the galaxy-wide CRTL setting.) There are other obvious applications for purely economic planets where I perhaps don't need any engineers maintained at all.

Hopefully that makes sense, thanks ! As always, apologies if this has already been suggested.

Ah, crap. I didn't even think to check the community polls. At least I pre-emptively apologised heh

MEGA ZOMBIE NECRO!

How would you distinguish which controls on which planets to "add"/"union" with, and which controls will be a total override?

I'd say two check boxes: "override galaxy wide if lower" and "override galaxy wide of higher"

--OR--

Just a single box for overriding galaxy wide completely, and maybe a button to "copy galaxy wide setting" for convenience.

a quick solution would be override galaxy settings every time, so if I set a lower number of engineers to be built, it will try to build only up to that number.
In that case, please allow 0 (zero) to be a valid number of engineers to auto-build: it should be considered as "do not autobuild"

of course we have to find a way to discriminate between "0" engineers because you want "0" and "0" as "use default". Maybe a -1 for "use galaxy setting".

regarding checkboxes, we can use the on/off/default dropdownlist as in control-group settings or a triple stare checkbox (are they available?)

I second the "-1" idea (rather than having a separate checkbox), although I'd prefer if the slider actually displayed "Use global settings" rather than "-1", which would be very unintuitive. I certainly wouldn't want two checkboxes for each one.

But if it actually said "-1", I would accept that. The important thing is that we can override global settings with per-planet settings. That's the whole point of per-planet settings, right?

I've implemented an experimental version of this in a mod: http://www.arcengames.com/forums/index.php/topic,16085.0.html

Maybe the devs will eventually include it in the base game. :-)
