Summary | 0014562: Research Tech: Should player research speed depend on planet research speed?
Description | In several of my games, it seems like the various races are learning research too quickly. Often in just a few months, species will learn tech back to back. I'm not sure if that's intended behavior or a bug, but it might be related to the recent issues about burlusts and thoaraxians dying off early. In this savefile, I recently gave Peltians spaceflight. Within 2-3 months, they learn both Quantum computers and turret technology. 3 months later, Sine Turret technology, a few months later Model T technology and Quantum power plants. Thoraxians learn both Quantum computers and quantum power plants. I have Skylaxians acquiring two technologies in the same month, Battle Cruisers and MED defense upgrade. This was a random 12 month period for a game I was recently playing, I did not search out for a bad example. Ultimately I'm not sure if this is intended behavior. Some of the species have research outposts, so I suppose it could make sense. But when most technologies cost several years for the player to research, thematically it seems strange. Perhaps when a player researches at a high-research planet, it should at most take as long as it would for the species to learn it on their own. Right now, research time is independent of where I do the research, which seems strange since I am supposed to be helping the species acquire it, not just working on it by myself. Perhaps there can be some sort of slider that also depends on species relations -- If the species really likes me, they devote all their research to the one I try to acquire, but if they despise me, they do the bare minimum.

I noticed the same thing.. when 3018 rolled around, some races researched 2 or 3 things the first month.. in 3023, they had half the MKIII immediately.. and then in 3028, all the research was done in the first month or 2 |
|
I think research is too fast, too, i just made a link to 0014516, where I suggested an option to change research rate. |

Marking as resolved, as the speed of things has been drastically slowed down since the original report. The related stuff about options to slow things even more (or presumably speed them up) I'm leaving open, as that's more of a matter of taste. But when you made your report, a lot of things in the solar system were running way too fast for sure! |
