Summary | 0016314: Queue Research
Description | I would love to queue research from different branches (say, queue biology to follow Architect Training). For players who develop 'standard starts,' this could really prove helpful.

That would be super duper hard and really something that isn't coming up any time prior to 1.0, but I get what you're saying. It's something that no similar game has... that I'm aware of anyway. |
Its a pretty common feature, I'm not sure if there is a communication gap here. The Civ series has had it since Civ 3? All of the Endless games have it. He just means control clicking to add a bunch of technologies to a queue which are then researched (in that order, including the necessary prereqs). |
Ha! Well, I've played Civ a ton and never knew that was an option. That sure would have been nice to know as a player, heh. ;) Anyway, in that case yes this will be on our feature list. :) |
While your at it, how about adding a tooltip to science to tell you what you are currently researching. It would be nice to have it listed on the GUI directly. But we are running out of space as it is. |
Good thought! |

As always, ptarth has accurately identified my sentiment and provided proper context around it :-) The command key varies from game to game, but ctrl or shift plus l-clicking in many 4x games enables the player to queue up research. (+ r-click could remove something from the queue and renumber everything.) Endless space allows you to queue the entire research tree in whatever order you would like. Alternatively, it could be implemented like a building queue in Civ, so that you could move research up/down without having to start over from the beginning should you discover you now need a different tech ASAP. Thanks, Chris! I hope that you and Keith find a way to implement. |
For 0.816: * Now clicking a tech tree node with the normal "Keep Doing More Of Same Action" key-bind held (defaults to shift) will queue that tech after the already targeted techs (if any), allowing you to set up multiple chains of research to run in series like in other games of similar genre. ** Since there's now more of a difference between a "target" node and node that is simply "queued" to get to the target, the targets show their estimated-time-to-completion circle in blue instead of green. ** Shift-clicking an already-targeted node will remove it from the list of targets, while leaving the rest of the target list intact and the game will recompute how best to get to the remaining ones. ** Shift-clicking on a node that is already queued-but-not-targeted won't do anything, since the meaning of that is ambiguous. Thanks :) |
Shift-clicking a node that is already queued-but-not targeted should remove it an all dependent techs from the queue. shift-left- clicking and Left-clicking over a building pops up the infor window, which should only happen if you right-click. Some oddness with 0 cost technologies. In the attached save, hit end turn and select a new tech. When you select the first one, Crowd Suppression will be automatically selected as well. Additionally, if you queue Advanced Hand weapons, it asks if you want to buy Crowd Suppression. If you say yes, then the rest of your queue is wiped. If you say cancel, then it cancels. |

Those are new reports, if you don't mind. ;) |

You guys are just trying to artificially boost your mantis issue fix rates. ;p Added as new issue. |
Thanks for putting that up there! It just helps us keep things organized -- I don't pay any attention to fix rates. :) |
